A Special POCSO Court in Senapati, Manipur, has delivered a landmark verdict in May 2026, sentencing a 48-year-old man to imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life for the aggravated sexual assault of his seven-year-old daughter.
The convict, identified as K. Besii from Kalinamai village under Mao police station, was found guilty under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
A case was initiated against the convict following a complaint lodged on March 16, 2022 by a member of a Child Line Senapati, alleging that the convict had sexually assaulted the minor victim multiple times since February 2022 .
Special Judge (POCSO) Lamkholal Kipgen pronounced the conviction on May 7, 2026, and the sentence on May 12, 2026. In addition to the life sentence, a fine of ₹20,000 was imposed.
During custodial interrogation, the convict admitted that he is a habitual drunkard and stated that he could not recall whether he had assaulted his daughter. But during the trial, the prosecution produced 14 witnesses, 16 documents, and 7 material exhibits to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
During the hearing on May 7, Koshia Mao, Special Public Prosecutor for the State, submitted that the convict is the father of the minor victim and had been assaulting her since his wife left him due to his drinking habits.
In a separate case from August 1, 2018, another Special Judge (POCSO) in Senapati, A. Noutuneshwari Devi, sentenced a 21-year-old man to the death penalty for the r**e and murder of a four-year-old girl.
