We're pleased to share that our Deputy Registrar, Ms. Sunayana Kandala, was invited as a panelist at the 15th Annual Legal Era India Conclave 2026 – Hyderabad Edition, organized by Legal Era - Legal Media Group.

Speaking during the panel, she addressed key developments in commercial dispute resolution, highlighting:

Hosted by the International Digital Dispute Resolution Centre at National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) Gandhinagar, the summit opened on the theme “Artificial Intelligence in Arbitration: Enhancing Decision-Making Without Replacing Human Judgment,” graced by Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. V. Anjaria, Shri R Venkataramani (Attorney General For India), Hon’ble Ms. Justice Sunita Agarwal, Hon’ble Mr. Justice M. R. Shah, and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajesh Bindal.

A defining milestone of the inaugural was the official launch of SAMYAK by Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. V. Anjaria, developed for IDDRC, the portal is an indigenous, end-to-end digital case management platform integrating AI to streamline administrative workflows, while ensuring substantive decision-making remains firmly guided by human judicial discretion.

Our CEO & Registrar Jawad A J conducted a 3-day advanced mediation training for the faculty of NFSU and also moderated the round table discussion on “Building India’s Digital ADR Architecture: Institutional, Regulatory and Technological Priorities” with Justice MR Shah and Justice Rajesh Bindal (former judges of the Supreme Court), Justice Sonia Gokani (former Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court), Mr. Ratan K. Strengthening Regional ADR: AIAC and IAMC Hyderabad Forge a Strategic Partnership

On the sidelines of Singapore Convention Week 2026, the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) and the IAMC Hyderabad signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a comprehensive framework for cooperation in the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) space.

This strategic alliance bridges two leading dispute resolution institutions united by a shared commitment to innovation, capacity building, and institutional excellence. By connecting the ADR ecosystems of India and Malaysia, the collaboration aims to advance best practices, enhance cross-border synergies, and develop highly effective, cost-efficient dispute management protocols for the global legal community.

The MoU was formally executed by Jawad A J (CEO & Registrar, IAMC Hyderabad) and Danesh Chandran (CEO, AIAC), presided over by Dato’ Mary Lim Thiam Suan (President, AIAC Court of Arbitration), alongside Aparna Panicker and Niksh*ta Niranjan representing IAMC Hyderabad.

As part of our Singapore Convention Week programming, the Young IAMC (YIAMC) Steering Committee hosted an in-depth discussion on Disputes Involving State-Owned Entities.

Featuring insights from Montek Mayal, Shujath Bin Ali, Poornima Kamble, Daniel Cai, Raj Panchmatia, Jayne Kuriakose, AJ Jawad, and Sidharth Sethi, the wide-ranging conversation explored how shifting geopolitics, resource scarcity, and regulatory changes increasingly impact cross-border investments and contractual stability.

Our esteemed panel unpacked several emerging issues in the space, such as:

• New compliance requirements for large technology and enterprise software operators are creating friction over data localization, as governments increasingly mandate that cloud services and public-sector data remain strictly within national borders.

• The ever-present asymmetry in bargaining power with private entities negotiating with SOEs severely limits their ability to negotiate fair dispute resolution clauses, especially with certain forms of government contracts featuring antiquated State-dictated clauses, sometimes requiring the state entity's own chairman to appoint the sole arbitrator.

Mitigating strategies for the above included pricing in regulatory risks into their initial bids and maintaining continuous advocacy with local governments as well as the secondary layer of protection bilateral investment treaties offer foreign investors, though initiating such a claim continues to remain an expensive and time consuming endeavour in and of itself.

IAMC Hyderabad and the Arbitration Bar of India were pleased to continue their conversation with a focus on “De-risking Indian renewable energy investments — strategies for cross-border opportunities in clean energy, energy storage, and transmission assets in India".

• Net-zero goals, carbon taxes, and revised 30-year PPA assumptions are fast reshaping asset lifespan and damage assessments in arbitration.
• Cross-border FDI in the sector remains heavily dependent on the 3 Cs of Certainty, Clarity, and Consistency to mitigate policy shifts and land delivery delays.

In association with the Arbitration Bar of India, IAMC Hyderabad was pleased to host a retrospective – focusing on whether India's dispute resolution framework had kept pace with the growing volume of activity in the infrastructure sector.

Speaking with an eye on the future: ‘The Road to $5 Trillion – Is India's Infrastructure Dispute Resolution Keeping Pace?' Our esteemed panellists Divya Adepu, Aditya Singh, Ananya Kumar, Ishani Vora and Shashank Garg discussed the systemic changes necessary for making the dispute resolution system in India more effective.

Of particular focus was the need for developing a time-sensitive approach for infrastructure disputes by embracing institutional dispute resolution solutions. These include the use of hybrid clauses to streamline proceedings and aid efficiency. Among other things, a strong need to bring in the experts for their opinions at the contracting stage and not just as witnesses after the crystallisation of a dispute was highlighted.
