The biggest mistake law students and freshers make?
A client walks in, starts crying about a problem, and you immediately start acting like a Judge.
Client: "My husband hit me..."
You: "Do you have medical proof? Section 498A requires evidence!" ❌
Stop.
When you do this, the client shuts down. You miss the real story.
Top Lawyers don't just "listen." They use a psychological strategy called the "Funnel Technique" 🌪️.
Here is how you should actually interview a client:
1️⃣ Phase 1: The Open Mouth (Wide Questions)
• Ask: "Tell me everything that happened in your own words."
• Rule: Put your pen down. Do NOT interrupt. Let them vent. If you interrupt, they stop trusting you.
2️⃣ Phase 2: The Probing (The T-Funnel)
• Ask: "You mentioned a contract. Who drafted it? When was it signed?"
• Rule: Now you pick specific topics and drill down.
3️⃣ Phase 3: The Verification (Closed Questions)
• Ask: "Is the property registered? Yes or No?"
• Rule: This is where you trap a lying client and lock the evidence.
