She was promised safety.
She was promised opportunity.
She only asked for fairness.
The campaigns say "Save the Girl Child."
But who will save the woman she becomes?
From whispered judgments.
From roads that go dark.
From hands that harm and laws that delay.
She is not asking for favours.
She’s asking for a world that doesn’t see her as a risk.
Let us build a society where she doesn’t need courage just to be normal.
Where dignity, safety, and trust are not gifts — but guarantees.

Until then, no scheme is enough.

FOOD SAFETY AMENDMENTS
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) introduced crucial amendments in 2024 to improve food safety, product labelling, and industry compliance. These changes align with international benchmarks, ensuring greater consumer protection and transparency in food standards.
Key Amendments in 2024
1. Amendment to Food Products Standards and Food Additives Regulations
On October 21, 2024, FSSAI notified amendments to the Food Products Standards and Food Additives Regulations, 2011. Effective from May 1, 2025, the key modifications include:
• Dairy Products: Revised minimum fat content for khoa and updated standards for mozzarella cheese.
• Spreads: Changes in permissible ingredients for peanut butter.
• Oils: Refined classifications for olive oil, specifying acceptable chemical properties.
Additionally, Clauses 24A, 24B, and 24C of Sub-regulation 2.4.6 were implemented immediately upon notification, indicating urgent regulatory adjustments.
2. Amendment to Food Safety and Standards Rules
On October 29, 2024, FSSAI issued a Gazette notification amending the Food Safety and Standards Rules, 2011. The modification pertains to Rule 3.1, specifically Sub-rule 3.1.1, Clause (5), where the figures "61" and "63" were inserted after "58". While technical in nature, this change reflects a continuous effort to streamline regulatory compliance.
Pros of the 2024 Amendments
1. Enhanced Consumer Safety – Stricter standards ensure that food products meet higher safety and hygiene benchmarks, reducing health risks for consumers.
2. Alignment with Global Standards – The revisions help Indian food products comply with international norms, facilitating exports and global trade.
3. Greater Transparency – Updated labelling and ingredient regulations provide clearer information to consumers, enabling informed choices.
4. Industry Accountability – The amendments reinforce compliance requirements for food manufacturers, reducing malpractices and substandard food production.
5. Immediate Implementation for Critical Changes – The immediate enforcement of certain clauses highlights the urgency of maintaining high safety standards.
Cons of the 2024 Amendments
1. Increased Compliance Burden – Small and medium-scale food businesses may struggle to adapt to new standards, leading to higher operational costs.
2. Transition Challenges – The industry requires time to adjust to the new regulations, which could temporarily disrupt production and supply chains.
3. Enforcement and Monitoring Issues – Ensuring compliance across a vast and diverse food sector remains a challenge, especially in rural areas.
4. Potential Price Hikes – Stricter regulations and enhanced quality standards may increase production costs, leading to higher prices for consumers.
5. Ambiguity in Certain Amendments – The insertion of figures "61" and "63" without clear public explanation may cause confusion among stakeholders.
Conclusion
The FSSAI's 2024 amendments are a big step in updating India's food safety regulations. Despite their many advantages—such as facilitating international trade and ensuring consumer safety—problems including industry adaptation and compliance expenses need to be resolved. For these rules to be implemented successfully, a well-rounded strategy that protects food safety and helps businesses will be essential.
