Protecting Identity in the Age of Deepfakes
At IPR SRG, we understand how crucial it is to safeguard one’s personality rights—especially in a world where AI can replicate your voice, face, and likeness without consent.
Recent Delhi High Court rulings highlight how the law is evolving to counter misuse of identity through deepfake technology:
The court has protected spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar by ordering suspension of domains circulating unauthorised AI-generated videos impersonating him.
In a powerful decision, it has also granted Aishwarya Rai Bachchan interim relief, restraining the use of her name, image, and AI-generated likeness for commercial
For journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, the court ordered takedown of deepfake content within 48 hours and recognized his right over his voice, image, and name.

Importantly, in a landmark move, the court directed Google to proactively block re-uploads of identical deepfake content, not just reactive takedowns.
