DLSA Ganderbal conducted Special Lok Adalat on NI Act Cases on 17/10/2026
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ganderbal, under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, successfully conducted a Special Lok Adalat for Negotiable Instruments Act (NI Act) cases today across District Ganderbal.
The Special Lok Adalat was held under the able guidance and supervision of Mr. Abdul Nasir, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge), Ganderbal.
Two benches were constituted for the amicable settlement of cases. The first bench was presided over by Ms. Mahoor, Munsiff/JMIC, Ganderbal, with Adv. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Panel Lawyer, DLSA Ganderbal, as a member. The second bench was presided over by Mr. Moonis Wahid, Munsiff/JMIC, Kangan, with Advocate Tariq Ahmed Raina, Panel Lawyer, Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Kangan, as a member.
The first bench heard cases at the District Court Complex, Ganderbal, while the second bench conducted proceedings at the Munsiff Court Complex, Kangan.
Several NI Act cases were taken up during the Special Lok Adalat, and cases were amicably settled through the process of mutual agreement between the parties, resulting in the settlement of disputes and facilitating speedy justice.
The Special Lok Adalat aimed to provide an effective platform for the amicable resolution of disputes, reduce the pendency of cases, and promote accessible and expeditious justice. The initiative reflects the continued commitment of DLSA Ganderbal towards strengthening alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and ensuring the delivery of justice to all.

At Gagingare, Kullan, Adhikar Mitra (PLV) Rumeesa Nazir Sheikh conducted a door-to-door awareness campaign and sensitised residents about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Old Age Pension Scheme, Widow Pension Scheme, Marriage Assistance Scheme, NALSA Toll-Free Legal Aid Helpline No. 15100, the Lokpal Programme, protection of women from domestic violence, family disputes, gender equality, fundamental rights and duties of citizens, Labour Card benefits and other social welfare schemes available to deserving sections of society. The programme also encouraged residents to seek legal assistance and avail themselves of eligible welfare benefits.
At Anderwan-B, PLVs Bisma Bashir and Heaba Mushtaq interacted with local residents and disseminated information about the 13 NALSA Legal Services Schemes, highlighting their role in providing legal assistance to eligible and disadvantaged sections of society. The residents were informed about the availability of free legal aid through Legal Services Institutions and the NALSA Toll-Free Helpline No. 15100 for legal aid-related information and guidance.
Similarly, at Anderwan-A, PLVs Shakeel Ahmad Wani and Bilal Ahmad Kumar conducted a door-to-door awareness programme to educate residents about various schemes of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the importance of free legal aid and the right to access justice. At Chunt Waliwar, PLV Yasir Nissar Bhat conducted a door-to-door awareness campaign, sensitising residents about free legal aid through DLSA Ganderbal and the NALSA Toll-Free Legal Aid Helpline No. 15100. The programme covered the POCSO Act, Old Age Pension Scheme, Widow Pension Scheme, Marriage Assistance Scheme, prevention of child marriage, protection of women from domestic violence, and the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. Residents were also informed about Lok Adalat and the amicable settlement of disputes, and encouraged to approach the Legal Aid Clinic or DLSA Ganderbal for legal assistance and guidance regarding their legal issues and eligible welfare schemes.
At Mamer, Tehsil Kangan, PLV Gulam Jeelani Raina conducted a door-to-door awareness programme, informing residents about various NALSA schemes, particularly the NALSA Scheme for Legal Services to Senior Citizens, NALSA Child-Friendly Legal Services Scheme, NALSA Scheme for Legal Services to Victims of Drug Abuse, and NALSA Scheme for Legal Services to Workers in the Unorganised Sector. Awareness was also created regarding the functions of DLSA Ganderbal, Tehsil Legal Services Committee Kangan and Village Legal Services Clinics, including the availability of free legal aid, legal advice, assistance through the Front Office, and the services of free legal aid counsel and PLVs. The programme further addressed the harmful effects and legal consequences of child marriage, child labour and drug abuse. Residents were informed about the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, applicable child-labour laws, Child Helpline No. 1098, the NDPS Act, de-addiction facilities, and the availability of legal and counselling assistance.

DLSA Ganderbal Organises Door-to-Door Legal Awareness Campaign on International Day of the Girl Child.

Ganderbal, 11 October 2026:On the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ganderbal, organised door-to-door legal awareness activities across various areas of the district under the able guidance of the Worthy Chairman, DLSA Ganderbal, Mr. Abdul Nasir, Pr. District & Sessions Judge, Ganderbal, and under the supervision of the Worthy Secretary, DLSA Ganderbal, Mr. Sheikh Babar Hussain**.

As part of the campaign, Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) (Adhikar Mitras) conducted door-to-door awareness activities in their respective areas, including Kondabal, to sensitise the public about the rights, protection, dignity, education and empowerment of the girl child.

During the campaign, local residents were made aware of the importance of gender equality, prevention of child marriage and female foeticide, and protection of girls against gender-based violence, discrimination and exploitation. Emphasis was also laid on promoting girls’ education, ensuring equal opportunities and creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for their overall growth and development.

The PLVs further apprised the public of relevant child protection laws, available legal remedies, and the provision of free legal aid and assistance through Legal Services Authorities. Parents and community members were encouraged to play an active role in safeguarding the rights and welfare of girls and to collectively work towards eliminating gender-based discrimination.

The campaign highlighted that every girl child deserves equal rights, quality education, safety, dignity and opportunities to realise her full potential. On 08 October 2026, PLV Nawaz Sharief Khatana conducted a door-to-door legal awareness programme at Urpash, wherein residents were sensitized about the NALSA Toll-Free Legal Aid Helpline No. 15100, availability of free legal services, NALSA DAWN Scheme, 2025, NALSA SPRUHA Scheme and Nasha Mukt Abhiyan. Awareness was also imparted regarding Child Labour Prohibition and Rehabilitation Laws, the POCSO Act under the theme “Suraksh*t Bachpan, Suraksh*t Bhavishya”, road-safety laws for vulnerable road users, reduction of plastic waste and preservation of biodiversity.

Awareness was also created regarding basic legal rights, available remedies, Lok Adalat, Mediation and other Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms, and the importance of resolving disputes at an early stage.
The residents were further sensitized about various NALSA schemes and welfare-oriented schemes intended for vulnerable and disadvantaged sections of society and were guided regarding the appropriate authorities and Legal Services Institutions for further assistance. The PLVs also addressed queries raised by residents concerning legal rights, access to justice and welfare benefits.
Further, PLV Aasiya Mohi-ud-Din and PLV Rumeesa Nazir Sheikh conducted door-to-door legal awareness activities at Anderwan-B, interacting with approximately 30 households. Residents were sensitized about various NALSA Legal Services Schemes and free legal aid, advice and assistance, particularly concerning children, senior citizens, persons with mental illness and intellectual disabilities, victims of acid attacks, victims of trafficking, workers in the unorganised sector, persons affected by poverty and other vulnerable and marginalized sections of society. Special emphasis was laid on the NALSA Toll-Free Legal Aid Helpline No. 15100.
The programmes provided an opportunity for direct interaction with residents, enabling the PLVs to identify legal and welfare-related concerns and guide the public towards appropriate Legal Services Institutions and government authorities. DLSA Ganderbal Continues Mega Legal Awareness Drive at Anderwan
Ganderbal, 7th October 2026: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal, under the guidance and supervision of the Worthy Secretary, DLSA Ganderbal, continued its ongoing Two-Month Mega Legal Awareness Drive through door-to-door awareness activities in Anderwan-A and Anderwan-B, aimed at taking legal awareness, free legal services and information regarding welfare-oriented schemes to the doorstep of the people.
At Anderwan-B, PLVs Aasiya Mohi Ud Din and Rumeesa Nazir Sheikh conducted an extensive door-to-door legal awareness programme and interacted with local residents, sensitising them about various NALSA Legal Services Schemes and the legal aid and assistance available to eligible persons. The residents were apprised about schemes concerning children, senior citizens, persons with mental illness and intellectual disabilities, victims of acid attacks, victims of trafficking, workers in the unorganised sector, persons affected by poverty and other vulnerable sections of society.
Special emphasis was laid on the NALSA Toll-Free Helpline No. 15100, through which eligible persons can obtain information and assistance regarding legal services. The PLVs encouraged the residents to approach the District Legal Services Authority, Tehsil Legal Services Committee and Legal Aid Clinics whenever they require free legal assistance, legal advice or guidance.
The awareness programme received an encouraging response from the local residents, who actively participated in the interactions and showed keen interest in knowing about their legal rights, available legal aid and welfare-oriented legal services. During the field visit, approximately 20 households were covered, with sincere efforts made to maximise public outreach and ensure effective dissemination of legal awareness.
At Anderwan-A, PLVs Ajaz Ahmad Magray and Gulam Jeelani Raina also continued door-to-door awareness activities as part of the ongoing Mega Legal Awareness Drive. The PLVs sensitised residents about various legal services, rights and welfare-oriented schemes available to eligible and vulnerable sections of society.
The residents were informed about the role and functioning of Legal Services Institutions and were encouraged to approach the DLSA, Tehsil Legal Services Committee and Legal Aid Clinics for assistance in case of legal grievances or disputes. The PLVs also apprised them about the availability of free legal services, Lok Adalats, mediation, pre-litigation settlement and the importance of seeking timely legal intervention.
Special emphasis was laid on creating awareness regarding legal rights and entitlements and encouraging residents to seek lawful remedies for resolution of their grievances. The PLVs also interacted with the residents to understand issues being faced by them and provided guidance regarding appropriate forums and authorities for redressal.
The door-to-door initiative provided an opportunity to reach residents who may otherwise have limited access to formal legal awareness programmes. Such grassroots-level outreach is aimed at ensuring that legal services and welfare-oriented schemes reach vulnerable and marginalised sections of society, particularly those residing in rural and far-flung areas.
The Two-Month Mega Legal Awareness Drive shall continue with further outreach activities across the district, reaffirming the commitment of DLSA Ganderbal towards ensuring equal access to justice and taking legal services to the doorstep of the people, in furtherance of the objective of “Access to Justice for All.”
