A wife is NOT expected to follow her husband like a “pug.” 🐶⚖️

A striking observation by the Madras High Court has sparked a bigger question:

Does marriage mean a wife must follow her husband wherever his career takes him?

In this case, the husband moved from Sivaganga to Mumbai for employment without taking his wife with him.

The Family Court viewed this differently.
The High Court said marital life cannot be judged on such a rigid assumption.

And there was more — 16 years of separation, an adultery allegation, and ultimately a ₹7 lakh alimony order.

But the real issue goes beyond this one couple.

👉 Can a marriage survive when career, independence and geography pull spouses apart?
👉 Where does marital obligation end and individual choice begin?
👉 What should the law expect from a husband — and from a wife?

Women: Would you move cities for your husband’s career?
Men: Should marriage require your spouse to relocate with you?
Advocates: How do you read this judgment?

Swipe through all 7 slides before forming an opinion.

Save this case. Share it with someone who should know about it. ⚖️

Nepal wants climate compensation. But is this climate justice - or a moral game? 🇳🇵

Following deadly floods, Nepal has sought compensation from major global emitters, naming China, the US and India.

Nepal argues that despite contributing very little to global emissions, it is disproportionately facing the consequences of climate change — from glacier melt to extreme floods.

But here’s the real question:

Does being a major emitter automatically make a country responsible for another country’s disaster?

Climate responsibility is a much more complicated debate involving historical emissions, per-capita emissions, development needs and actual causation.

What do you think — legitimate climate justice or diplomatic pressure?

He went to the Supreme Court to challenge the Bombay HC. Instead, his bail came under scrutiny. ⚖️

Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Sukrya Mhatre approached the Supreme Court challenging the Bombay High Court’s suo motu intervention after his bail was stayed.

But during the hearing, the Supreme Court questioned the State of Maharashtra on why it had not challenged the subsequent Bombay High Court order that granted Mhatre bail with stringent conditions.

The State told the Court that it would file an appeal seeking cancellation of his bail.

The Bench also made strong observations over the alleged assault on doctors:

“Those who attack doctors don’t deserve bail.”

The Court further indicated that the Bombay High Court was fully justified in taking suo motu cognisance of the Magistrate’s bail order.

👉 The twist: Mhatre’s SLP was challenging the High Court’s intervention. But the hearing has now brought his later bail order itself into focus before the Supreme Court.

⚠️ Important: The Supreme Court has not cancelled his bail at this stage. The State’s proposed appeal seeking cancellation of bail will be considered along with Mhatre’s present SLP.

A legal challenge that may now turn into a bail challenge.

🚨 SUPREME COURT QUASHES STUDENT PROTEST FIRs ACROSS INDIA

In a significant order, the Supreme Court has directed that FIRs registered across the country in connection with student protests held between July 20 and July 25 shall not be pursued or investigated and shall be treated as closed.

⚖️ The Court has also directed that no State or Union Territory shall register any fresh FIR in relation to those protest incidents.

The order has been passed by invoking the Supreme Court’s special powers under Article 142 of the Constitution.

However, there is an important exception.

Delhi Police has been permitted to proceed with one FIR concerning 2,873 individuals who were allegedly found to have serious criminal antecedents.

The Bench also made it clear that this order is based on the peculiar facts and circumstances of the case and shall not be treated as a precedent.

📌 Case: Yashovardhan Azan & Ors. v. Union of India & Ors.

The Court has also recorded the Centre’s assurance that a policy for compensation to families of students who died by su***de following the cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 will be formulated within three months.

What are your views on the Supreme Court invoking Article 142 to grant this relief? 👇

🚨 Pune Political Row Escalates: FIR Filed Against Amit Thackeray

A political controversy has erupted in Pune after MNS leader Amit Thackeray objected to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph being displayed alongside portraits of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at Government Polytechnic, Shivajinagar.

The photograph was removed by MNS workers following Thackeray’s objection. The matter has now taken a legal turn, with an FIR registered against Amit Thackeray and several others in connection with the incident.

The BJP has strongly condemned the action, while Thackeray has defended his stand, saying that Shivaji Maharaj and Dr. Ambedkar cannot be equated with the Prime Minister.

With the photograph later reinstalled, the controversy has now moved from a political dispute to a police case.

What do you think — was this a legitimate objection or unnecessary political provocation?

🚨 WHAT EXACTLY ARE WE BUYING AT THE PETROL PUMP?

A petition before the Supreme Court sought mandatory disclosure of the ethanol percentage in petrol—both on petrol pump nozzles and on fuel bills/receipts.

The petitioner argued that consumers have a right to know the composition of the fuel they purchase.

The demands went further:

⛽ Exact ethanol % on every petrol nozzle
🧾 Ethanol content printed on every fuel receipt
🚗 Vehicle-wise E20 compatibility information
🔧 Consideration for older/non-compatible vehicles
📋 Disclosure of technical studies and policy documents
⚖️ A national consumer disclosure protocol

But what did the Supreme Court do?

The Court declined to entertain the petition and granted the petitioner liberty to approach the concerned High Court.

Importantly, the Court did not decide that consumers have no right to know the ethanol content.

👉 Should petrol pumps be legally required to disclose the exact ethanol percentage?

What do you think? Comment below.

Mittal has described the decision as a personal one, connected to her priorities and the next phase of her life. Meanwhile, speculation about her future — including a possible political career — has begun, although nothing has been officially announced.

From London to the IAS, 13 years of public service, and now a new chapter.

“Do you feel you are a lord and you can do anything?” -Bombay High Court

The Bombay High Court strongly criticised the Maharashtra FDA over its decision to keep five eateries at the Mumbai Cricket Association premises shut, despite a fresh inspection finding them 88% compliant with food-safety norms.

The Court questioned the approach of the authorities, cancelled the suspension and warned officials against exercising regulatory powers in an arbitrary manner.

⚖️ A powerful reminder that administrative authority comes with responsibility—and every public authority must act within the bounds of law.
