Strict punishments for sexual offences against women
The president of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee has given his assent to the newly introduced anti r**e bill. As per the newly amended Criminal law amendment Act 2013, acid attacks are serious offences. Under section 354 of IPC, request for sexual favours, making sexually coloured remarks, stalking, voyerism and disrobing are included. This bill is proposed in the wake of public outburst over the Delhi gang r**e and therefore, the section 376 of IPC became more stringent and punishable.

Legal aid is a right to the accused - Supreme Court
The Supreme Court clarified that the Accused is entitled to the legal aid from the date of his arrest. All these days, the magistrates are enquiring about the legal aid at the time of preliminary examination time. As per the new judgment, the Magistrates have to inform the accused about his rights of legal aid through legal practitioner and supreme court further clarifies that if the magistrates fails to appraise the situation to the accused at the time of production of accused before him in any cognizable offence, it amounts to dereliction of duties.
