The tariff war unleashed by the US President Trump will hurt many economies across the World. Whenever I read the newspapers on finance, economy, and the tariff war, I am reminded of this thought:

Thought for the dayโ€ฆ.

This is a wonderful thought that I have picked up from one of my favourite songs. It is the creation of one of the great Greek philosophers. The thought has a deep meaning and I keep it my heart all the time. It also reflects the entire theory of Karma and its results which is the essence of Hindu philosophy. Here it is:

Thought for the dayโ€ฆ..

When I became a lawyer in the year 1992, my father took me to his law teacher who was also an ace lawyer and then became a Judge of the Supreme Court, to seek his blessings. He was none other than Late Justice Kuldeep Singh, also known as the green judge. He pioneered environmental law in India. He passed away recently. He blessed me and said that at the top of the legal profession, itโ€™s not crowded. I havenโ€™t forgotten his words. Here is a thought on the same lines:

โ€œThere is always room at the top.โ€

Thought for the dayโ€ฆ..

There has been a proliferation of books on life, motivation, success, peace and happiness, over the last three decades or so. โ€œIkigaiโ€ is amongst my favourites.
Here is a crisp thought on life that I endeavour to keep with myself all the time:

โ€œThe greatest thing in the world is to know how to be oneself.โ€

Supreme Court Justice Hima Kohliโ€™s humility is exemplary. The Learned Judge hasnโ€™t forgotten the time when as a lawyer, she worked without an office & used the boot of her car to keep the case-files. She spoke of her experience with a smile & without a twitch. These are motivators for young lady lawyers.

I have often found lawyers incorrectly addressing lady Judges of High Courts as โ€œYour Lordshipโ€. This incorrect way also reflects a gender bias for male judges and against female judges. The correct way to address lady High Court judges is โ€œYour Ladyshipโ€ or โ€œMy Ladyโ€.

Why do we have open courts where media and public can come, observe and comment?
During my research, I came across this passage on the importance of open courts:
Lord Widgery in R. v Socialist Worker Printers & Publishers Ltd., (1975 QB 637)
"... The great virtue of having the public in our courts is that discipline which the presence of the public imposes upon the court itself. When the court is full of interested members of the public... it is bound to have the effect that everybody is more careful about what they do, everyone tries just that little bit harder and there is a disciplinary effect on the court which would be totally lacking if there were no critical members of the public or press present. When one has an order for trial in camera, all the public and press are evicted at one fell swoop and the entire supervision by the public is gone."
