Dubai's transport story is entering a new chapter. The Dubai Metro Gold Line, a Dh34 billion project announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is set to become the emirate's first fully integrated underground route, stretching 42 kilometres from Al Ghubaiba to Jumeirah Golf Estates. Inside this ambitious vision lies a network of 18 stations spanning 15 strategic areas, expanding the Metro system by 35 per cent and directly benefiting close to 1.5 million residents across the city. From Bur Dubai and Business Bay to Dubai Hills, JVC, and Arabian Ranches, more than 20 communities stand to gain seamless connectivity, with key interchanges linking the Green Line, Red Line, and the upcoming Etihad Rail passenger stations at Meydan and Jumeirah Golf Estates. Built using advanced tunnelling technology designed to minimise disruption to daily life, the Gold Line reflects Dubai's continued push toward a smarter, more connected future. Amazon has announced the launch of the Amazon Youth Council, developed in collaboration with the UAE's Federal Youth Authority to support national priorities around youth empowerment and talent development. Bringing together young Emirati professionals from across Amazon and AWS, the council focuses on two core pillars, empowerment and development through mentorship, technology training and skill-building workshops, and community impact through cultural integration initiatives and volunteering programmes that celebrate Emirati identity and values. Dubai just revealed a major upgrade to one of its busiest east-west corridors, and the impact on daily commutes is already being felt. The Roads and Transport Authority has opened a new four-lane, 700-metre bridge on Al Qudra Road, built to serve traffic heading towards Al Qudra City with capacity for 6,000 vehicles every hour. This bridge completes the traffic configuration at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, working alongside a second bridge opened back in February to create a smoother journey in both directions. Once the full intersection upgrade is complete, total capacity will rise from 7,800 to 19,400 vehicles per hour, while waiting time will fall by an incredible 85 per cent, from nearly seven minutes down to just one. The story does not end there. More infrastructure is set to open in the final quarter of 2026, including side ramp bridges and three kilometres of new service roads designed to connect surrounding communities without disrupting the main road. Across the wider Al Qudra Road Development Project, journey times are expected to drop by 70 per cent, from 9.4 minutes to 2.8 minutes, directly benefiting more than 400,000 residents and visitors across Arabian Ranches, Motor City, Dubai Studio City, Mudon, DAMAC Hills and The Sustainable City. This is Dubai’s vision for the future of mobility in motion, reinforcing its reputation for world-class infrastructure while supporting the goals of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. Suaad Al Shamsi has worked at the intersection of aviation, engineering and leadership as the UAE's first female aircraft engineer, a distinction earned through persistence in an industry that rarely made room for women. Her fascination with flight began in childhood, watching aircraft pass over her family's home near Dubai International Airport and wondering who designed and maintained them. At the time, aeronautical engineering was not accessible to women in the UAE, so she pursued her education in the UK before returning home to build her career. What followed was not simply a professional journey but a sustained effort to shift perception, proving that technical excellence and femininity were not mutually exclusive, and that ambition did not require women to abandon other parts of their identity. She encountered persistent doubt about whether women could hold leadership positions in technical fields, and whether a demanding career in aviation could coexist with family life.
