**Book Spotlight: No Regrets: Journey Through Law and Life**

The Krishna River moves slowly through North Karnataka, and so did the Raichur of my childhood. I was born there in 1966 into a family where law and land were woven together. One grandfather prosecuted cases in the morning and walked his cotton fields in the afternoon. The other, a quiet civil judge, taught me that justice is not only applying the law but healing what people have broken.

My Memoir No Regrets take you through the foundations of a life. A boy who read the Encyclopaedia Britannica on the veranda and hid thrillers under his textbooks. A young man who failed Mathematics in 12th standard and learned more from that failure than from any success.

And then a question I never expected to face: what did forty years of small, harmless habits really cost me? When a coach asked me to calculate it, the number that came back stopped me cold.

This is not a story of perfection. It is a story of stumbling, owning it, and walking on.

No Regrets is available now on Amazon in paperback and e-book. If you have ever wondered what a lifetime in law, and a life lived on your own terms, looks like from the inside, I would love for you to read it.

There is a particular quiet that arrives only when a book has you completely.
Not the quiet of an empty room. The quieter kind, where the room is still there and you are not. The page turns, and the street outside fades. A sentence lands, and for a while the argument in your head stops arguing. You are somewhere else, and the pleasure of that is hard to explain to anyone who has not felt it lately.
Immersion is not the same as finishing a book. It is the stretch in the middle, when you stop checking how many pages are left. The characters begin to answer before you ask. A room in the story has a smell. You look up and are mildly surprised that the light in your own room has changed.
I have known that pleasure since the days of Chandamama and Champak, through long stretches of law books that were anything but immersive, and back again in the years when reading became a way of returning to myself. A good book does not hurry you. It does not ping. It asks only that you stay.
In a city that rewards the next thing, staying is its own small rebellion. Twenty pages before sleep. A chapter with coffee. A weekend afternoon where the phone is face down and the story is face up. The world does not become smaller when you read. It becomes briefly inhabitable in a way the feed never quite manages.
If a book has held you like that recently, I would like to know which one. Not the one you finished. The one you disappeared into.

Some of my best lessons did not come from courtrooms or boardrooms. They came from ordinary Bangalore mornings: a filter coffee at a corner stall, an auto driver explaining the city's traffic with the confidence of a judge, a stranger sharing an umbrella in sudden rain.

Writing has taught me to pay attention to these small moments. Life rarely announces its important scenes. They arrive quietly, dressed as routine, and only later do we realise they were the story all along.

So today, I invite you to notice one small thing you would normally overlook. A face, a sound, a smell, a sentence someone said in passing. Hold on to it. You may be surprised by what it becomes.

Which small moment from your own day stayed with you? Share it below, I would love to read it.

Something I did not expect when I started putting these books out.
Across the titles so far, paperbacks have outsold the Kindle editions.
I had assumed the opposite. An ebook is instant, cheaper, and easier to carry. A paperback has to be printed, shipped, and waited for. On paper, the digital copy should have won.
It has not.
A few readers have written to say they wanted the book on a shelf, not only on a screen. Some ordered a copy for a parent who does not use a Kindle. A couple wanted something they could lend, mark, or leave on a table. One person said they read the ebook first and then bought the paperback because the story stayed with them.
That last one surprised me the most.
I still like the ebook. It reaches people who would never order a printed copy, and it lets a book travel without a parcel. But the paperback numbers have been a quiet reminder that a physical book is not finished yet. For some readers it is still the real thing: a weight in the hand, a spine on the shelf, a gift that does not need a login.
I did not write these books expecting that split. I am glad it turned out this way.
If you have read one of them in print, thank you. It means more than the sales line suggests.

Grateful to Turning Pages Club for this reader feature of The House on Lavelle Road.
Readers described it as a story of family secrets, heritage, and a city changing faster than the people who grew up in it. One called it “both a family drama and a love letter to Bangalore.” Another said it made them think about what we are willing to give up in the name of progress and what we might lose in the process.
That is the book I wanted to write. Three siblings. One family home. A hidden past. Bangalore not just as a setting, but as a character in the story.
100% recommended by readers in this feature.
If you enjoy emotional family drama, stories of inheritance and identity, or literary page-turners set in modern India, I hope you will give it a look.

Some days the writing is easy. Most days it is not.
I sit down anyway. A page, a paragraph, sometimes just a sentence that feels true. That is usually enough to keep the thread going.
Readers do the same thing on the other side. You open a book on a tired evening, or between errands, and stay with it a little longer than you planned. That quiet exchange is what makes this work.
If you have been reading anything lately, even a few pages, tell me what it is. I am curious what is holding your attention right now.
