Hazrat Iliyas (Elijah)
, a prophet revered in Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. He is famously known for his authority over fire and rain, symbols of divine judgment and mercy.
The Power over Rain
According to Islamic tradition and biblical accounts, Hazrat Iliyas was sent to the people of Israel who had turned to the worship of the idol Ba'al.
The Drought: To demonstrate the power of the one true God, Iliyas prayed for rain to be withheld 0.4.2. This resulted in a severe three-year famine that crippled the kingdom.
The Return of Rain: After the people and their king repented (or after the defeat of the false prophets), Iliyas prayed again, and a massive rainstorm ended the drought, signifying God's forgiveness.
The Power of Fire
Hazrat Iliyas is also linked to fire as a tool of divine proof:
The Challenge: In some traditions, he challenged the worshippers of Ba'al to a contest. Both sides prepared a sacrifice, and the god who answered with fire from heaven would be recognized as the true God. The fire descended only for Iliyas, consuming his offering.
His Ascension: In many accounts, Hazrat Iliyas did not die a natural death but was taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire.
Spiritual Significance
In Sufi tradition, Hazrat Iliyas is considered one of the "immortal" prophets (alongside Hazrat Khidr) who continues to guide the spiritual world.
Protection from Heat: Spiritual poems like the Ya Ilaahi Munajat often use the imagery of "burning in the heat" of the Day of Judgment, seeking the "cool breeze" of divine mercy 0.4.1.
