The HSE is proposing a new autism assessment system that we believe is unsafe.

It puts speed ahead of quality, with short, one person assessments instead of full checks by a team of specialists, and this makes wrong or missed diagnoses more likely.

Experts have warned that this plan could harm children and families and repeat the mistakes of the old, unlawful “Preliminary Team Assessment”. We are calling for proper, thorough assessments and real investment in services – not quick, cut down reports.

Targeted reforms to improve the Assessment of Need process for children and their families have been announced.

Is your child still waiting for a HSE Assessment of Need?

We offer pro bono representation in most cases because there is no State legal aid scheme dedicated to these Assessment of Need delays.

Under the Disability Act your child is entitled to have their Assessment of Need started within 3 months and completed within 6 months of your application. If you are facing long delays, you have the legal right to challenge this and get a proper assessment for your child.

We specialise in children’s disability rights and HSE delays, we act quickly to enforce children’s legal entitlements to assessment and support.
