Being the first generation lawyer in my family has never been about proving that I am better than anyone else. It has always been about proving to myself that where you come from should never limit where you can go.
I didn’t grow up with lawyer parents who could teach me the profession. I didn’t have family connections to open doors or create opportunities. There was no blueprint to follow, no shortcuts, and no legacy to inherit.
Every opportunity had to be earned through long hours of studying, countless setbacks, discipline, consistency, and the willingness to keep moving forward even when the path felt uncertain.
The journey hasn’t always been easy, but it has been worth it. Every challenge has shaped me into the lawyer I continue striving to become.
To anyone who is also the first in their family to pursue a dream, remember this: you don’t need to come from privilege to build a meaningful career. You don’t need the perfect network to create your own opportunities.
Sometimes, all you need is hard work, faith, resilience, and the courage to take the first step.
Be proud of being the first. Because when you’re the first, you’re not only changing your own life you’re creating a new legacy for the generations that come after you.
