Haldanes recently joined the "Roundtable on Shanghai-Hong Kong Collaborating in Seizing Belt and Road Opportunities," with Joanne Lam, Criminal Defence Associate, and Katniss Su, our newly joined Trainee, attending on the firm's behalf.

Held during the Belt and Road Summit at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the roundtable was jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and various Shanghai government units, bringing together around 120 business delegates from Shanghai.

As Belt and Road initiatives continue to open up cross-border trade, investment and dispute resolution, our firm is delighted to support platforms like these, building connections between Hong Kong and Mainland China's business and legal communities.

Training every week under the coach who first spotted him as a teenager, Timothy says the track gives him “an incredible sense of freedom and a complete mental reset.” From breaking Hong Kong Junior relay records in 2004 to the weekly training today, that absolute focus translates directly from the starting blocks into the courtroom.

Haldanes Intellectual Property partner Anthony Leung recently shared his views with the China Business Law Journal on Hong Kong's first five-year plan and its ambition to develop as a regional IP trading centre.

Anthony's key takeaway: given Hong Kong's relatively small market and the territorial nature of patent rights, the key to an attractive patent system is to foster regional and bilateral recognition with other major markets.

As Hong Kong sharpens its focus on IP trading and dispute resolution, these practical steps could strengthen its competitiveness in Asia and beyond.

Delighted to share that our Senior Associate, Xenia Lo, recently delivered a talk on the “Three Instruments of Peace” (平安三寶) — an important topic that helps individuals and families prepare for the future with clarity and confidence.
