On 18 September 2026, our Partners Eunice Chiu and Yvonne Kong, together with a team of OLN volunteers, visited Helping Hand's Po Lam Jockey Club Housing for the Elderly to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with its residents.

Over mooncakes, conversations and smiles, we shared a joyful afternoon with the residents. The Po Lam Jockey Club Housing for the Elderly provides residential services to more than 100 elderly residents who are able to live independently with minimal assistance but require housing support due to family or financial circumstances.

We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with the residents and celebrate this special festival together. Through simple acts of companionship, we hope to bring warmth, festive cheer and meaningful community connections to those around us.

📢 Hong Kong Employment Law Update

Our Partner, Victor Ng, and Associate, Claudia Wong, have published an article examining the practical implications of Hong Kong's new continuous contract framework and the key steps employers should take to manage compliance risks and workforce planning following the rule change.

The replacement of the "418 Rule" with the new"417/468" continuous contract test, which took effect on 18 January 2026, has expanded access to statutory employment protections for employees with variable working hours.

As a result, workers under the new 417/468 rule may become eligible for benefits (subject to satisfaction of each requirement) such as:
✅ Paid annual leave
✅ Statutory holiday pay
✅ Sickness allowance
✅ Maternity and paternity leave
✅ Severance payment and long service payment
✅ Protection against unreasonable dismissal

🔍 Now is the time for businesses to review their workforce arrangements, employment contracts, payroll systems, and record-keeping practices to ensure compliance with the new requirements.
