Article 18 Rejection - Overturned. We recently secured a positive court outcome for a client whose residence permit application had been rejected under Article 18 of the Georgian immigration law (a provision related to state security).

Following an appeal and a court hearing, the judge nullified the rejection and ordered the government to issue a new decision on the permit. The court also ordered full compensation of the client's legal and court fees.

If your residence permit has been rejected on the basis of Article 18, it is worth getting a legal opinion before accepting that outcome as final. Rejections can be challenged, and in some cases, successfully overturned.

As of today, parliament has rolled back the controversial March 1st requirements under an expedited procedure.

You no longer need a Special Labour Permit, visa, or residence permit if you are:

A remote employee of a Georgian business (no entry required)

Working for non-resident clients whose business isn't in Georgia

An owner or director of a Georgian company (some categories excluded)

Here for a short-term project, event, or service

Work residence permits also got simpler. The 50,000 GEL turnover requirement is gone. (New requirements may come via ordinance — stay tuned.)

These changes remove unnecessary barriers. Good for expats. Good for Georgia.

Georgia is rolling back labour permit requirements, exempting remote workers, foreign contractors, and company partners and directors.

Running a small or mid-sized business, you’ve likely felt the shift over the past few years with higher costs, tighter margins, and more complexity in simply keeping things running. For many founders, the question is no longer whether to adapt, but how.

Georgia has increasingly become part of that conversation. With a low and predictable tax structure, minimal administrative burden, and a system that allows businesses to operate with a degree of clarity that is becoming rare elsewhere, it offers a different way of structuring operations.

But opportunity on paper and reality on the ground are not always the same. Setting up correctly, staying compliant, and understanding how things actually function locally requires more than surface-level knowledge.

ExpatHub operates not as a service provider in the background, but as a stable point of reference for businesses entering and operating in Georgia.
