Hot sunny weather and the Black sea beach attract numerous visitors in summer season. During this period the city is full of Georgian as well as foreign tourists. Batumi and other resort places in Ajara such as: Kvariati, Sarpi, Chakvi and Kobuleti are distinguished by abundance of entertaining establishments and tourists facilities.

In summer Batumi hosts numerous international concerts and festivals on open European-type squares thus becoming a cultural center of Georgia.

The concerts of famous singers and bands, circus and theater performances, classical music and opera evenings, sport events are mainly conducted in July and August. Numerous special guests visit Batumi during this period. Lovers of jazz annually gather at the “Black Sea Jazz Festival”, while admirers of classical music can attend festival “Night Serenades” established as a tradition by famous Georgian violinist Liana Isakadze. A festival of electronic music “Summer Set” is especially interesting for younger generation. Different International sport events are also conducted during this period. Lovers of beach football and volleyball visit Batumi from neighboring countries. On the other hand motorbike international festival has already become quite big and impressive show.

During summer season almost all types of tourism are available. Gambling becomes especially venturesome due to numerous tourists interested in this tourism variety. Eco tourism lovers can spend hot summer days and refresh in cool and pleasant temperature in the mountains where it is possible to learn about rural tourism and wine tourism, as well as to attend public holidays held in different municipalities during August-September (“Kvirikoba”, “Kintrishi gorge festival”, “Mariamoba”, “Kolkhoba”, “Shuamtoba”, “Shuamtoba “ in Shuakhevi, “Selimoba”, “Shuamtoba” in Beshumi, “Shuamtoba” in Chudurauli, “Shuamtoba” in Sarichai, “Shuamtoba” in Zortikeli).

In Summer Batumi 6 May Park becomes particularly active. Dolphin shows are held three times a day including an unforgettable night shows. Panoramic wheel, one of the most interesting attractions, offers amazing views on sea shore as well as on the city.

The beach near Botanical garden is distinguished by cozy environment and spectacular nature. Here you can relax after walking in Botanical Garden.

Summer period is also perfect time to visit summer resort “Beshumi” located 1850-1900 m above sea level and covered by sub-alpine forests. Beshumi is distinguished by especially clear and fresh air. Since a dense coniferous forest contributes to the healthy ionization of the air Beshumi is a particularly good place for those with chronic respiratory tract diseases and bronchial asthma. That’s why a considerable part of Batumi population prefers to rest and relax exactly in Beshumi.

Summer is also the best period for visiting cultural monuments. Museums welcome guests every day. One of the most ancient fortresses, Gonio-Apsaros is located near Gonio littoral. The legendary fortress is closely connected with myth of Argonauts. The territory of Tsikhisdziri is also distinguished by best views and beaches. Petra fortress, belonging to the 4th century, is located here.

Arch stone bridges are abundantly found in mountainous Ajara leading to spectacular river banks and waterfalls. Skhalta Monastery in Khulo is distinguished by rich historical-cultural past and offers amazing views of beautiful landscapes.

CONFERENCE AWARDS

Papers submitted to BICLP 2014 will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee and evaluated in terms of their overall quality. All accepted papers will be published in the electronic conference proceedings. A limited number of papers will receive special awards on the basis of their scientific merit and originality and an Awards Ceremony will take place during the Closing Remarks session of the Conference.
