This stage involves three key components: selecting the correct sub-base material for the specific application, setting it to the appropriate levels, and compacting it properly. Each element is equally vital. When done correctly, this process lays a solid foundation for the next stages of the project. But if any part is done poorly, it can lead to significant issues and even total job failure in the future.

What to Expect When Getting Your Garden Landscaped

Stage 1 – Groundwork

The first stage of any landscaping project is groundwork—and it’s absolutely critical to the success and longevity of your new garden.

This phase typically involves the removal of existing garden features or structures, excavation of the area to the required depth, and the clearing of all waste materials.

Waste will be collected into one designated area and removed from the site using grab wagons.

While this stage can sometimes feel overwhelming,
especially as your garden may look like a construction site, it’s the foundation of the entire project. Proper groundwork ensures durability and helps prevent future issues, making it the most essential part of the process.

Where necessary, we’ll also install land drainage systems to address areas with poor natural water dispersal, helping to prevent waterlogging and maintain the health of your new garden.

Here’s a recent transformation we carried out for a customer in Thornaby. Bringing a new lease of life to this garden with 150m2 of porcelain paving, new turf throughout the front and back garden, a garden wall to the front of the property with a porcelain seating area within, a driveway extension using Cotswold gravel and a new summerhouse acting as the icing on the cake. This job has been quite the transformation and we hope the customer has many happy years in their new garden.
