If you have been dismissed, the clock matters more than almost anything else.
At the moment you have three months less one day to bring most employment tribunal claims. From 1 October 2026 that doubles to six months, but only where the dismissal happens on or after that date. Anyone dismissed in September keeps the old, shorter deadline.
Breach of contract claims in Scotland change separately, on 9 November 2026, which means two different deadlines can apply to the same dismissal this autumn.
Our new guide explains how the deadline is calculated, how ACAS conciliation pauses it, and what your options are if you think you are already out of time.
