You have just over TWO HOURS to respond to the consultation on Special Educational Needs

Our Head of SEN law Hannah Adams says:

"The law does not need changing, we need increased enforceability and more accountability for Local Authorities to ensure they follow the law. These reforms do not do this. They seek to remove parental and children’s legal rights. "

If you want to have your say then you can still email the Department for Education on: [email protected] OR complete the consultation response on https://consult.education.gov.uk/send-strategy-division/send-reform-putting-children-and-young-people-firs/ by MIDDAY TODAY.

Last weekend saw campaigners and families alike gather in Parliament Square to protest against the dilution of Special Educational Needs and Disability rights, coming together under the banner of Save Our Children’s Rights to highlight the importance of protecting existing legal protections. Among them was the family of our Head of SEN, Hannah Adams, joining many others in calling for these rights to be protected.

As a mother of children with SEND, these issues are deeply personal to Hannah and inform the work she does every day supporting families to understand their rights and access the support their children need.

Hannahs tell us: “The current law is clear on children’s right to an education that meets their SEN and parents right to disagree with decisions made and have their appeal heard by a Tribunal. The law does not need changing, we need increased enforceability and more accountability for Local Authorities to ensure they follow the law. These reforms do not do this.”
