β˜€οΈ SUMMER HOLIDAYS & CHILD ARRANGEMENTS – HAVE YOU MADE A PLAN? β˜€οΈ

The summer holidays can be an exciting time for children β€” but for separated parents, arranging where the children will spend their time can sometimes become stressful, particularly when things aren't so amicable...

If you share care of your children, it can help to agree arrangements well in advance, particularly where your work, holidays, or trips away are involved

πŸ’‘ Things to consider include:

πŸ–οΈ How will the school summer holidays be divided?

✈️ Are either of you planning to take the children away on holiday? If so, have you agreed the dates and destination?

πŸ“… Will the usual weekend or midweek arrangements continue during the holidays?

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ How will special occasions, family events and birthdays be dealt with?

πŸ“± How will the children keep in touch with the other parent while they are away?

πŸŽ’ Who will be responsible for travel arrangements, passports, medication and other essentials?

Most importantly, try to keep the focus on what works best for your children, rather than on disagreements between the adults.

If you are struggling to agree arrangements, you do not necessarily need to go straight to court. Mediation or legal advice can sometimes help parents reach an agreement that works for everyone.

βš–οΈ Received a Letter Before Proceedings?

If Social Services have invited you to a Pre-Proceedings Meeting under the Public Law Outline (PLO), it is important to take the matter seriously.

Many parents are understandably worried when they receive such a letter, but it does not automatically mean that care proceedings will be issued.

The purpose of the process is to identify concerns and work with families to achieve positive changes that keep children safe.
Parents are usually entitled to free legal representation at this stage, regardless of income.

Seeking legal advice early can make a significant difference.

If you have received a Letter Before Proceedings and are unsure what to do next, contact our family law team for advice.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§Child Arrangements After Separation: What Are Your Rights?πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§

One of the most common questions are are asked is:

"Can my ex stop me from seeing my child?"

The answer is not always straightforward.

The Family Court's primary concern is the welfare of the child. Decisions are based on what arrangements are in a child's best interests, and wherever possible, children should have a meaningful relationship with both parents.

If you are struggling to agree arrangements for your children following a separation, it is important to seek legal advice early. Many disputes can be resolved without the need for lengthy and costly court proceedings.

If agreement cannot be reached, a Child Arrangements Order may help provide clarity and stability for everyone involved.
