“We felt completely confident that our wishes were properly understood and documented.”

A Lasting Power of Attorney is about much more than completing a form.

You are choosing who you trust to make important decisions for you if you are unable to make them yourself — potentially about your finances, property, care and medical treatment.

That makes the conversation behind the document important.

We take the time to understand your circumstances, explain the decisions you need to make and discuss how you would want your Attorneys to act.

The aim is not simply to prepare an LPA. It is to make sure you understand the choices you are making and that your wishes are properly reflected.

We were therefore particularly pleased to receive this feedback from a recent client.

If you’re considering making a Lasting Power of Attorney, you can speak directly with a solicitor for a free initial consultation.

It’s an understandable way to think about it.

A Lasting Power of Attorney can feel like something to arrange later; perhaps when you’re older, your circumstances change, or you begin to need some help.

But an LPA is something you put in place before you need it.

It allows you to choose, while you are able to do so, the people you trust to make decisions on your behalf if there comes a time when you cannot make those decisions yourself.

Without one, your family does not automatically have the legal authority to manage your finances or make certain decisions on your behalf. If you lose the capacity to make an LPA, putting that authority in place can become considerably more complicated.

Making an LPA isn’t about expecting something to go wrong.

It’s about deciding who you would trust if it ever did, giving yourself and your family some peace of mind that the arrangements are already in place.

A conversation worth having while the choice is still yours.

Compensation following an accident isn’t always limited to the injury itself.

Our client suffered an injury after tripping on a defective surface and required help from friends and family while they recovered.

As part of the claim, we considered not only the client’s injuries, but also the wider impact the accident had on their day-to-day life.

This included the care and assistance provided by friends and family during their recovery, for which we were able to obtain compensation as part of the settlement.

It is something injured people can easily overlook. Help with everyday activities — whether that’s housework, shopping, personal care or other tasks you would ordinarily have managed yourself — can form an important part of a personal injury claim.

Every claim is different and whether compensation can be recovered will depend on the individual circumstances and supporting evidence.

If you’ve been injured and would like to understand what can be taken into account when assessing your claim, you can speak directly with a solicitor for a free initial consultation.

A particularly good delivery to the office this week…

These were made by Hannah's Kitchen, another small independent business based locally.

We’re always pleased to support local businesses where we can — although admittedly, supporting this one wasn’t exactly a hardship.

Safe to say, there weren’t many leftovers.

“Very transparent with every step of my claim.”

Knowing what is happening with your case shouldn’t be an added extra.

When you instruct a solicitor, you should understand where your claim is up to, what happens next and why we’re recommending a particular course of action.

That means explaining things clearly, keeping you updated and being open about the decisions that need to be made along the way.

We’re delighted that this client’s experience reflected exactly that.

If you’ve been injured and would like to understand your options, you can speak directly with a solicitor for a free initial consultation.

You don’t need a Will.

There’s no legal requirement to make one.

But if you die without a Will, it isn’t you who will have to deal with the consequences.

It could be your children. Your partner. Your friends. Your family. Or the people left trying to work out what you would have wanted.

The intestacy rules provide a legal framework for dealing with an estate when somebody dies without a Will, but they don’t know your family, your relationships or what’s important to you.

A Will allows you to make those decisions yourself.

It can help you decide who should inherit, who should look after your children, who you trust to deal with your estate and how you would like the people and causes that matter to you to be provided for.

So, no — you don’t need a Will.

But the people you leave behind might be very glad you made one.

If you’d like to discuss making or reviewing your Will, you can speak directly with a solicitor for a free initial consultation.

“Did what was best for me.”

That’s exactly what good legal advice should do.

Every personal injury claim is different because every client is different. The right approach depends on your injuries, your circumstances and what matters to you.

That means listening before advising, keeping you informed, and making decisions based on your best interests rather than simply following the same process for everyone.

Thank you to Saroj for trusting us with the claim and for taking the time to leave such kind feedback.

One conversation we have every week…

“The driver drove off, so I can’t make a claim.”

It’s one of the most common assumptions we hear from people following a road traffic accident.

Many people believe that if the other driver cannot be identified, there is simply nothing that can be done.

Sometimes that’s true.

Often, it isn’t.

Every situation is different, which is why it’s always worth speaking to a solicitor before deciding not to pursue a claim. There may be options available that you haven’t considered.

One conversation could make all the difference.

There aren’t many occasions that can divide friends, families and work colleagues quite like the Battle of the Borough.

For 80 minutes, loyalties are tested. But what we admire about rugby league is fierce competition on the pitch, and a real sense of community off it.

As a firm, we’re proud to support and work with people from across the North West. Whether you’re from Leigh, Wigan, Widnes or anywhere in between, it’s those local connections that make our communities so special.
