August Moments at Surrey Choices 🌟 From building independence to making a difference in our communities, August has been full of brilliant moments!

Yeukai built her confidence to travel independently, helping her prepare for moving into Supported Living and being able to visit her family. 🚌

The Growth Team enjoyed a day at Hayling Island, with a dip in the sea, fish and chips, arcades and ice cream. 🌊

The Farnham Community Group launched a litter-picking initiative with Farnham Town Council, supporting the Keep Britain Tidy Litter Heroes scheme. ♻️

We celebrated Surrey Choices’ 12th birthday across our hubs and teams, marking 12 years of giving Every Life, Every Chance. 🎉

The Growth Team joined Surrey Hills National Landscape volunteers at Newlands Corner to create natural barriers protecting ancient yew trees. 🌳

We’re aware of a recent incident in Woking involving a cyclist and another vehicle, with one of our minibuses at the scene.

Our driver acted in the moment with bravery and compassion, pulling across to protect the cyclist. They immediately called an ambulance and provided support until help arrived.

We’re incredibly grateful for the way our driver responded in what was a difficult situation.

Our thoughts are with the cyclist, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.

Everyone enjoyed good food, catching up and spending time together in such a beautiful space. We’re grateful for the continued partnership with The Garibaldi Pub, helping people to connect, build friendships and be part of the community. 👫

The Fernleigh Team have been volunteering at Wildlife Aid, helping to care for the wildlife garden and keep it thriving through the summer heat. Their work is also helping provide an important source of food for bees and other pollinators. 🐝🌸

A huge well done to everyone involved for giving their time to such a worthwhile cause 👏

As we celebrate 12 years of Surrey Choices, we’re sharing the stories of the people who make our work so meaningful.

For our final story, we’re sharing Sara’s journey. What started with some hesitation about volunteering has grown into confidence, independence and new opportunities, including proudly celebrating one year as a Cancer Research volunteer. 👏

Over the past 12 years, we’ve seen countless examples of people discovering their strengths, building confidence, developing new skills and achieving things they may not have thought possible.

These are the moments that show exactly what Surrey Choices is all about: making a difference, changing lives and supporting people to live the life they choose.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of our 12-year journey. Here’s to many more stories, achievements and opportunities to come 🎉

Today, we’re celebrating our Knit and Knatter Group and the thoughtful work they’ve been doing to support families through an incredibly difficult time.

The group have been knitting hearts for 4Louis, who provide memory boxes to families experiencing the loss of a child. The handmade hearts will be included in memory boxes for families.

Today, we’re sharing Christina’s favourite story. As Head of Innovation and Business Development, she shares a powerful reminder of how the right support can change lives 💭

One of my favourite memories from the last 12 years takes me right back to when Surrey Choices first started and I was leading EmployAbility. Seeing someone secure their first paid job and realise what they were capable of was always incredibly special.

A story that has stayed with me is a couple who came along to our Saturday morning Job Club, both looking for support to find work. Today, they're both in paid employment, happily married and expecting their second child.

I love hearing stories like this because they remind me that employment is about so much more than a job. It can lead to confidence, independence, friendships, relationships and opportunities people never thought possible. Seeing those long-term outcomes is something I'm incredibly proud to witness.

🌟 12 Years, 12 Stories 🌟
As we celebrate 12 years of Surrey Choices, we're sharing some of our favourite memories.

Today, we're sharing an inspiring update from Cheryl, Travel Choices Manager 💭

One of the first people I worked with as a Travel Trainer was Keaton, and his journey is one I'll always remember. When Keaton was preparing to move from school to college, travelling independently felt like a huge challenge. Over the summer holidays, we completed travel training sessions, gradually building his confidence until he was ready to make the journey on his own.

One of my proudest moments was receiving a phone call from Keaton to say he was already on his way home independently. He'd realised he could do it himself, and he proved that he could. The impact went far beyond travelling to college. Keaton started going to local shops on his own, visiting friends independently and enjoying a level of freedom he had never had before.

A year later, I caught up with Keaton at college. He told me how much he enjoyed travelling independently and had even volunteered to speak to prospective travel training participants and their families at a college open evening. Watching him confidently share his experiences and encourage others was a real full-circle moment. Seeing Keaton's confidence and independence grow is something I'll never forget.

As we celebrate 12 years of Surrey Choices, we're sharing some of the memories, partnerships and moments that have made a difference over the years.

Today, we're sharing Senior Community Support Worker Debbie’s story about a partnership that has created meaningful opportunities for the people we support. 💭

One of the moments that stands out most for me has been helping to set up the Farm Café sessions with The Special Needs Farm. Seeing the people we support grow in confidence, develop new skills and feel part of their local community has been incredibly special. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love my job and the impact we can have.
