A sweet end to a long journey!
After a lengthy and complex case finally reached a successful resolution, one of our wonderful clients surprised the whole team with this generous spread to say thank you.

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do — supporting people through difficult times and achieving the best outcomes possible.

Thank you for the kind gesture — and the delicious treats! The whole team had a wonderful lunch and there’s so much left over for us to take away for our loved ones too!

We were truly touched to receive such a thoughtful gesture from a client after the conclusion of their divorce/finance case. A long marriage where I must admit I had some doubt at the start would go all the way but where our client transformed herself into an incredible, power house of a person! The beautiful flowers, chocolates, and heartfelt thank you card mean a lot to us. It’s always our privilege to support clients through challenging times, and this kind of appreciation makes our work even more rewarding. Thank you!

In today’s financial consent hearing, we saw an unexpected turn when the other party, who had previously agreed to a clean break, suddenly requested a lump sum of £20k instead. This just goes to show how quickly things can change in financial negotiations. It’s always important to stay flexible and ready for any surprises during the process.

Feeling like a famous author today...

Had a client come in and ask to see the "author lawyer"! 🤩 It’s funny how the world sometimes gives us little reminders that we’re on the right path—even when we're still working on the next big book. But hey, it’s a start! 😆

It’s those moments that make the dream feel real. Who knew being a lawyer would lead to unexpected perks, like having fans of my writing pop up in the most surprising places?

Turns out, being both a lawyer and an author has its unique advantages. 📚✨

Here’s to proving that with hard work and passion, your legal career and creative pursuits can truly complement each other.

An eye-opening story about a divorce case turned down by 116 legal aid lawyers, shedding light on the complexities and challenges within the legal aid system. I’m pretty sure it’s happening across England and Wales too! It's a must-read for those in the legal field but also anyone needing help in this area:

A woman who was assaulted by her husband was unable to find a legal aid lawyer in Scotland to handle her case.

In the face of unimaginable loss, the strength and beauty of co-parenting can emerge. When a mother passes, it’s incredible to see how fathers and stepfathers can come together as an unbreakable "A-team" for the children. The father had previously worked incredibly with the mother post separation. This bond highlights the power of selflessness, collaboration, care, and resilience in family dynamics. Today, we solidified and facilitated that enduring co-parenting with an agreed Child Arrangements Order securing the long term arrangements for the children, who having suffered the horrors of losing their mum are at least saved years of wrangling and fighting.

**Standing Up to Unquestioned Authority in Family Court: A Key Reminder for Legal Professionals**

In family law cases, CAFCASS reports often hold significant weight, influencing key decisions. However, it's vital for magistrates to remember that all evidence—regardless of the source—deserves careful scrutiny and should be considered in its full context.

Yesterday, we had a rare but important success where we persuaded the Magistrates to look beyond a CAFCASS recommendation. While CAFCASS' report initially seemed conclusive, the magistrates remained open-minded and ensured that all the facts were considered. This decision reinforces a crucial point: no opinion, even from respected bodies like CAFCASS, should automatically override the full picture—especially when new evidence emerges.

It’s a powerful reminder for us all that legal decisions must be based on the most up-to-date and comprehensive information available, and reports should evolve when new insights come to light, rather than relying solely on initial conclusions.

Important update in domestic abuse law: Coercive control is now being treated the same as other domestic violence offences. This change ensures greater protection for victims and stronger legal consequences for abusers. If you or someone you know is affected, it’s crucial to seek legal advice. We’re here to help.

Coercive control to be treated like other domestic abuse offences

People convicted of coercive or controlling behaviour now face tougher management from police and probation.

So this happened this time last week…Had the privilege of participating in a focus group on child poverty, as Chair of Home-Start Birmingham consortium and hosted by one of our member schemes. The conversation was deeply impactful, with parents directly affected by poverty sharing their powerful experiences and perspectives. MP Alison McGovern and Mayor of West Midlands Richard Parker were also in attendance, but it was the parents who truly held the floor. Their voices were a stark reminder of the real-world challenges many families face and the urgent need for systemic change. Grateful for the opportunity to listen, learn, and advocate for meaningful solutions that put families first. Appreciate the time of all who participated and hoping for change. Part of our family law work and I will continue advocating for better for our future generations!
