⚓ Big Announcement! ⚓

We are marking our 10 year anniversary with a huge announcement, that we have been pushing for over years of campaigning...

SOWENNA MENTAL HEALTH UNIT WILL EXTEND AGE RANGE BEYOND 18!

Invictus Trust are very proud to announce today that young people will be able to continue their inpatient stay in Sowenna, past their 18th birthday when clinically appropriate. The unit will also be able to admit young people in their late teens, when clinicians believe Sowenna is the best place for them to receive their care.
It will be one of the first youth mental health units in the country to do this! 👏👏👏

After 7 years of campaigning for the Sowenna under-18 unit to be built, the Invictus Trust continued to lobby for young people to be permitted to stay in the unit beyond their 18th birthday to complete their treatment.
We have always been keen advocates of recognising adolescence as 13-25, and not putting young people who turn 18 into adult mental health care as our Ben experienced.

All the Invictus trustees are so pleased and relieved to announce this development, after a lot of work behind the scenes meeting with local and national politicians! 🙌⚓

Thank you to the team at Sowenna for working so closely with Invictus on this! 🙏
Phil Confue , the CEO of Cornwall Partnership Foundation Trust in charge of Sowenna, stated “ “We welcome the opportunity to take this tentative step towards the aims of the NHS Long Term Plan. This small change means we will be able to allow young people to complete a course of treatment in Sowenna past their 18th birthday, when we feel this will deliver the best outcome for them.”

We are DELIGHTED to announce this brilliant development for Cornish mental health, and finally achieve this change as Invictus celebrates 10 years! ⚓👏⚓👏

Watch out for local news today as trustees Sharon & Steve have been giving lots of interviews!
