Taunton lawyer, Elizabeth Duncan, reports on the Sea Cadets s*x abuse scandal.
A former Sea Cadets volunteer has been sentenced to 22 years in prison by Taunton Crown Court for s*xual offences against children while he was volunteering with the Sea Cadets.
For a period of six years in the 1990s Phillip Grove committed a range of s*xual offences, including r**e and s*xual assault against the children in his care.
One of the survivors of his abuse was able to disclose what had happened in 2020 and the case finally came to trial, with Grove being sentenced last week.
Taunton based abuse lawyer, Elizabeth Duncan, who specialises in bringing compensation claims on behalf of victims of s*xual abuse commented,
“Although the clock can never be turned back, I hope this sentence brings some closure and comfort to the survivors of these terrible crimes. The courage of those speaking up cannot be overestimated and I wish them well for the future.”
