The Renter's Rights Act came into force on 1 May this year and has introduced many significant changes that landlords need to be aware of.

We've worked with Innes England to break this down from both a legal insight and asset management perspective.

Take a look at our blog and guide to find out more about these changes and how they might impact your day-to-day management: https://bit.ly/4fw72Kv

The Construction and Engineering team at Lodders has advised leading developer Stoford Properties Ltd on the transformation of the former Typhoo Tea factory in Digbeth into the BBC’s new Birmingham headquarters.

The redevelopment forms part of the wider Typhoo Wharf masterplan and represents one of Birmingham’s most significant recent office pre‑lets. Once operational, the building will accommodate several BBC editorial teams, including The Archers, BBC Asian Network, BBC Newsbeat, BBC Radio WM, BBC 1Xtra and Midlands Today, further strengthening Digbeth’s growing creative and media cluster.

Heidi Brennan, partner and head of the Construction and Engineering team at Lodders, was instructed to draft, negotiate, and advise on the full suite of construction documentation required for the project, involving a major refurbishment of the partially existing building and new-built aspects.

The rules around APR and BPR: What has changed?

Since 6 April 2026, 100% relief APR and BPR applies only to the first £2.5 million of qualifying assets. Assets above that threshold will receive 50% relief. For married couples and civil partners, the allowance will be transferable, effectively providing a combined £5 million ’allowance’.

In addition, AIM shares will only qualify for 50% relief, regardless of their value.

For farming families, business owners and high-net-worth individuals, this will represent a significant shift from how inheritance tax planning has worked previously.

Child maintenance plays an important role in making sure children’s day-to-day needs are met, but the system can feel confusing, particularly the Child Maintenance Service.

When you and your partner separate, one of the first concerns is often how your children will be financially supported. In most cases, child maintenance is dealt with outside the court system. However, there are important exceptions where the court can become involved. Understanding how the two interact can help you make informed decisions and avoid unnecessary complications, as Justin Creed, family law expert at Lodders, explains in our latest blog.
