When someone dies, there can be a lot to deal with - and it isn't always clear what needs to happen first.

From establishing whether there is a Will, to protecting and valuing the estate, obtaining the appropriate Grant and ultimately distributing the estate, there are a number of important legal and practical steps to consider.

Getting things right at the outset can help prevent delays, disputes and potentially costly mistakes later on.

Our team can guide you through the estate administration process, whether you need advice on a particular aspect or would prefer us to handle the full administration for you.

If you need support with an estate, get in touch with our team to discuss your next steps.

A fantastic and insightful session on the upcoming changes to Inheritance Tax and Income Tax on pensions.

Our Wills & Probate team were delighted to attend a collaborative session hosted by Deans Wealth Management, with Ed Marshall and John Corbyn sharing their expertise on what the changes coming into effect from April 2027 could mean for advisers, clients and their families.

It was a really valuable opportunity to explore the practical implications of the new legislation, from pension death benefits and IHT liabilities to expressions of wishes, estate planning and strategies for passing wealth on to future generations.

A big thank you to everyone involved for putting together such an informative and engaging event.

We thoroughly enjoyed the session and the opportunity to connect, share ideas and discuss how we can best support clients through what will be a significant change to the pensions and estate planning landscape.

Did you see our latest article about the Pathfinder route in children proceedings?

The Pathfinder process was introduced across the Midlands, including Stoke-on-Trent, in November 2025, changing the way the Family Court approaches private law children proceedings.

The aim is to put children at the centre of proceedings, identify safeguarding concerns earlier, reduce conflict and help cases progress more efficiently.
But what does the Pathfinder process actually mean if you’re involved in children proceedings?

Our latest article explains:
🔹 How the Pathfinder process differs from the previous approach
🔹 What happens after an application is issued
🔹 The role of Cafcass and the Child Impact Report
🔹 How the process could affect the number of hearings and timescales
🔹 The potential benefits for children and families

Every family’s circumstances are different, and some cases may still require further investigation or hearings.
