A Fantastic week last week supporting our charity of the year, Sheffield Women’s Aid.

We began the week by donating toiletries and essential items for the women and children staying in the refuge, before rounding off the week with a ‘tropical dress down day’🌴🌺

Both initiatives provided a great opportunity for our team to come together and support the incredible work of Sheffield Women’s Aid.

We look forward to continuing our partnership and supporting the charity's vital work throughout the year🤝

The Government’s proposed 2026 cohabitation reforms could reshape the legal landscape for millions of unmarried couples living together in England and Wales.

Although still at the consultation stage, they signal a potential shift towards greater financial and inheritance protection for cohabitants.

Positive client feedback is a reflection of our Conveyancing team's commitment to excellence.
“My flat was in London while Wake Smith are based in Sheffield, and that made absolutely no difference at all. If anything, it highlighted just how good they are… Wake Smith, and Sude in particular, were completely honest and upfront about costs, realistic about what could be achieved, and then actually delivered on it. I genuinely will not go anywhere else now. I cannot recommend Wake Smith and Sude highly enough”

AI can be an excellent starting point for understanding the divorce process, learning legal terminology and preparing questions for your solicitor.

However, relying solely on AI to make decisions, and advise you about your divorce, is highly likely to prove to be an expensive mistake.

We would like to explain why this is in this blog: https://www.wake-smith.co.uk/advice-centre/family-divorce-law/divorce-advice/Is-it-safe-to-take-divorce-advice-from-AI$3F--The-risks-of-using-ChatGPT-for-family-law-advice--

🏡 Own a leasehold property? It may be time to review your position.

The Government has confirmed that further leasehold reforms are on the way, with the proposed Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill expected to bring significant changes for homeowners.

For many leaseholders, the reforms could mean greater control over their property, increased transparency and potential cost savings.

If you own, or are thinking about buying or selling a leasehold property, it's important to understand how these changes could affect you.

Our Residential Conveyancing team explains what the proposed reforms could mean in practice and the key things property owners should consider in our recent article 👇

Changes to unfair dismissal rights are set to come into force from January 2027.

The qualifying period for bringing an unfair dismissal claim will reduce from 2 years to 6 months, alongside the compensation cap being removed. This will apply to employees starting from 1 July 2026 onwards.

If you missed our Employment Law Seminar last week, here are some of the key considerations employers should be focusing on right now.

✅ Implement a clear probationary review structure
✅ Look at different probation periods – 5 months or 4 month probation periods with the option to extend for a month
✅ Review performance in months 2 and 5
✅ Document any discussions or concerns
✅ Make, and communicate, a decision to dismiss before the 6-month point
✅ Train managers
