Significant changes to UK Settlement rules are planned in 2026.

The UK will be moving to an “Earned Settlement” model, which proposes to increase the baseline qualifying period for settlement from 5 years to 10 years. Applicants will then be able to reduce this period by meeting certain requirements.

These changes might impact people already in the UK and on their route to Settlement.

Earned Settlement is currently in a consultation period, which ends on the 12th February. We’d encourage everyone to make their voice heard by responding to this consultation period on the gov.uk website, which we’ve linked in our blog.

We’ve had several enquiries from Skilled Worker applicants who’ve been overcharged on their 3 year visas.

Can you study on a UK Skilled Worker visa?

The short answer is yes. You’re allowed to study in any form in the UK if you’re on a Skilled Worker visa, as long as it doesn’t interfere with your sponsored employment.

If your Sponsor Licence company has a change in ownership, you must remember to apply for a new Sponsor Licence within 20 days.

We’ve seen a few instances of companies changing shares or removing direct company owners without thinking about how this impacts their Sponsor Licence.

❗ Reminder: the eVisa 31st December deadline is fast approaching.

If you have a BRP, you must remember to apply for an eVisa before the end of the year. The Home Office may have contacted you already. If not, they will do so before the end of 2024.
