Most of us have someone we would trust to help if we became seriously ill or were involved in an accident.

But trust alone does not necessarily give that person the legal authority to manage your finances, speak to organisations or make important decisions about your care.

Planning ahead is not about expecting the worst. It is about making sure the people you trust can support you when it matters most 🫶

Speak to the wills and probate team at St Helens Law for friendly, professional guidance.

A Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to choose trusted people to support you or make decisions on your behalf.

There are two types:
🏠 Property and Financial Affairs
This can cover matters such as managing accounts, paying bills, dealing with property and handling pensions or benefits.

❤️ Health and Welfare
This can cover decisions about care, medical treatment, daily routines and where you should live. It can only be used when you are unable to make the relevant decision yourself.

You can make one type or both, depending on your needs. Each LPA must be registered before it can be used.

Our specialist team can guide you through the preparation and registration process.

Writing a will should not always be a one-off task. As your life, family and finances change, your will may need to change too.

It is sensible to review your will following significant events such as marriage, divorce, the birth of a child or grandchild, a house move or the death of someone named in the document.

Even when nothing major has happened, periodically checking your will can help ensure it continues to reflect your wishes.

Speak to our team if your circumstances have changed 😊

A will is not only for older people or those with substantial wealth.

It allows you to record your wishes, choose who should deal with your estate and help reduce uncertainty for your loved ones.

Without a valid will, your estate will be distributed according to the rules of intestacy — which may not reflect what you would have wanted.

Our specialist team provides friendly, straightforward advice to help you create a will that reflects your circumstances 😌
