Struggling in silence isn’t strength. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is let someone in. 💙

During Mental Health Awareness Week, counsellor and psychotherapist Emma Pateman-Jones reminds us that action doesn’t have to look dramatic. It can be as quiet as admitting something feels hard. As simple as starting a conversation. As small as asking for help before things reach breaking point.

If you’re navigating a relationship breakdown or a major life change, it’s easy to try to hold everything together on your own — but carrying it all alone can narrow your thinking at the very moment you need clarity most.

Action this week might just mean deciding you don’t have to do this alone.

Pets bring joy, comfort and companionship — they’re woven into the emotional fabric of our families. Yet under current English law, pets are still treated as chattels in divorce, alongside items like furniture or cars.

That means there’s no automatic concept of “pet custody”, no welfare checklist, and no legal recognition of the deep bonds people share with their animals. Decisions often come down to ownership, purchase, and practical arrangements, not the emotional realities families live with.

At NE Family Law, we see every day how important pets are to our clients. That’s why we encourage collaborative, child‑ and pet‑sensitive solutions that focus on stability, routines, and what works best for everyone involved.

Is your pet akin to your car, favourite armchair, your kettle?

Client feedback🌟

We represented our client through high conflict children proceedings involving a fact finding hearing and serious allegations. These cases are fraught with emotion, the children and their welfare should remain front and centre, and such cases require extremely delicate handling and the right team.

If you find yourself dealing with a high conflict situation, or are concerned about your children’s welfare or are on the receiving end of allegations we can help.

I had a blast on Monday at Level Up Live.

It was an inspiring day of talks, tips and golden nuggets for founder mums to think big and take their businesses to the next level- for whatever stage they are at.

There was a line up of phenomenal speakers covering topics from unmuting yourself and gaining confidence with social media, finding your CEO identity, email marketing, operations and systems, burnout and getting rejected.

Huge thanks to .nurse

I was thrilled to join the panel with Annabel Bosman, Tamsyn and share insights and views

- getting organised in your business
- on protecting your business whatever life throws at you
- future proofing
- founder mum reality

We were pleased to be able to support the event and keep everyone caffeinated!

I salute you, another excellent event. Can’t wait until next year!

is going to be a jam packed day of listening, planning, connecting and being truly inspired.

Who doesn’t want to hang out with determined, likeminded, supportive women stiving for success whilst doing ‘the juggle’?! We are those women, and we sure do!Nicki and I set up NE Family Law coming up 5 years ago. We waned # to grow a values driven firm. We describe ourselves as a boutique firm with a heart and stand by our core values:

- Building trust
- Transparency
- Empathy
- Collaboration
We are both mums. My boys are 9 and 5, so I’m in the thick of it and Nicki’s daughters are in a different life stage, mid 20’s, travelling, independence and working out life’s path.

We are navigating the many hats we as business owners need to master - social media, accounts, business planning, marketing, PR, growth - it’s all a learning curve and skills we need to develop. As co-founders, we also don’t always agree! As a team, we support people through two of life’s biggest emotional, practical and financial challenges - separating/divorce and life planning/death are as tough as they come. Many of our clients run their own businesses, or are in senior leadership roles and juggle the demands of home and children. They are the sandwich generation so when life throws curveballs - knowing which way to turn and where to find guidance and support - is where we step in.So, if you are coming along, please do come and say hello to us!If this resonates and you haven’t yet got your ticket for this event - you absolutely need too! Emma represented the husband in this very long running matter which finally concluded with this Judgmet from HHJ Hess.

Unfortunately this case was marred by repeated applications from the W who was acting in person. We successful argued against the W being given permission to appeal the most recent order. In light of repeated applications with no merit we also secured a Limited Civil Restraint Order to prevent further applications being made without leave / permission of HHJ Hess and a pro bono costs order.

Tthe length of the judgment does not do justice to the 6 years in litigation. It had been quite the challenge on many occasions!

It was very much a team effort and very grateful for support of counsel and our team over so many years.
