There's something satisfying about bringing old brickwork back to life the right way.

This is exactly why cement mortar can cause problems on older stonework.

The over-pointing had become loose and was trapping moisture, while the softer stone beneath had started to deteriorate.

Removing the failed mortar carefully is the first step before the wall can be repointed with a more suitable mortar.

Good masonry restoration isn't about covering problems up, it's about fixing them properly so the building can perform as intended for years to come.
