🕷 🕸️🎃 Blow the cobwebs off your Will This October!

October means darker evenings, falling leaves, pumpkins on the doorstep… and perhaps a few cobwebs appearing too! 🕸️

But there’s one thing you really don’t want gathering dust - your Will!

Life can change a lot in just a few years. You may have:

🏡 Moved house or bought another property
💍 Married, divorced or started a new relationship
👶 Welcomed children or grandchildren
💷 Seen your financial circumstances change
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Changed your mind about who you want to inherit
✍️ Need to update your Executors or Guardians

Even if you already have a Will, it’s important to review it from time to time to make sure it still reflects your circumstances and your wishes.

👻 And the really scary thought?

Dying without a valid Will means the rules of intestacy determine who inherits your estate - rather than you deciding yourself.

🍁 So why not make October the month you finally tick it off the list?

Whether you need to make your first Will, update an existing one, or simply check that everything is still suitable, Newlife Wills is here to help.

📩 Get in touch with us to arrange a friendly, no-obligation chat.

🍂 September is the season of fresh starts 🍂

The children are back at school, routines are returning and many of us are getting organised for the months ahead.

While you're updating calendars, sorting uniforms and planning busy family schedules, why not take a moment to review something just as important - your Will❤️

Life changes more than we realise. A new home, marriage, grandchildren, changing finances or simply a change in your wishes can all be good reasons to make sure your Will still reflects the people you love.

For parents, September is also a gentle reminder of how quickly children grow up.

Having a Will in place can include your wishes for guardianship and help provide clarity for your family's future if the unexpected ever happened.

It may also be the perfect time to consider Lasting Powers of Attorney, helping ensure the right people can make decisions for you should they ever need to.

🍁 A new season is a wonderful opportunity to make sure your future plans are up to date.

If you'd like friendly, straightforward advice about Wills or LPAs, we're here to help.

🎒 BACK TO SCHOOL, BACK TO PLANNING ✏️

September brings a fresh start – new uniforms, new routines, new adventures and another reminder of just how quickly our children are growing up. ❤️

While we spend so much time planning for their future, there’s one important question that can easily get forgotten…

Is your Will up to date?

For parents, a Will isn't just about money or possessions. It can help you:

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Record your wishes about who should care for your children
🏡 Protect your home and assets
💷 Put arrangements in place for your children's inheritance
📝 Choose the people you trust to deal with your estate
❤️ Make sure your wishes reflect your family as it is today

A lot can change in a year. A new baby, a house move, marriage, separation, a new relationship or simply children getting older can all be good reasons to review your Will.

So, while the children head back to school, perhaps it's time to put your family's future back on the to-do list too.

✨ Planning today. Protecting their tomorrow.

Get in touch with Newlife Wills for friendly, straightforward advice about making or reviewing your Will.

☀️ Grandparents & the Summer Holidays: Leaving Something for Your Grandchildren 💛

The school holidays are here, and for many grandparents that means more precious time with the grandchildren - days out, sleepovers, trips to the beach, picnics and making memories together.

It can also be a reminder of just how quickly they’re growing up and make us think about their future.

Did you know your Will can make specific provision for your grandchildren?

You could:

💷 Leave them a specific sum of money
🎁 Leave treasured jewellery, keepsakes or possessions
👧 Include current and future grandchildren
🔐 Hold their inheritance in trust until they reach an age you choose, such as 21 or 25
🎓 Allow Trustees to use funds for their benefit while they’re growing up
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Arrange for a child’s share to pass to their children if they die before you

Many grandparents assume that leaving everything to their own children means some of it will eventually reach the grandchildren.

But circumstances can change.

If it’s important to you that your grandchildren receive something, making your wishes clear in your own Will can provide far greater certainty.

So, while you’re busy making memories with the grandchildren this summer, perhaps it’s also time to think about the legacy you’d like to leave them. ❤️

At Newlife Wills, we can help you put the right arrangements in place for the people who matter most.

☀️ Who Would Make Decisions If You Couldn't?

With another heatwave hitting the UK, we're all being reminded to stay cool, drink plenty of water and check on elderly relatives and vulnerable neighbours.

But extreme weather also reminds us of something else... life can change unexpectedly.

If an illness or accident meant you couldn't make decisions for yourself, who would make them for you?

Many people assume their husband, wife or adult children could automatically step in - but legally, that's often not the case.

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) allows you to choose someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you ever lose the ability to do so.

There are two types:

🏡 Property & Financial Affairs – managing your finances, paying bills and dealing with your property.

❤️ Health & Welfare – making decisions about your care, medical treatment and wellbeing.

Without an LPA, your loved ones may have to apply to the Court of Protection before they can help - an often lengthy and expensive process at an already stressful time.

Just as we prepare for a heatwave with water, shade and sun cream, it's worth taking a little time to prepare for life's unexpected moments too.

📞 If you'd like to find out more about Lasting Powers of Attorney, we're here to help with friendly, straightforward advice.

☀️ Summer Safety Isn't Just About Sun Cream – It's About Protecting Your Family's Future ❤️

As families head off on their summer holidays, most of us remember the essentials...

🧴 Sun cream
🕶️ Sunglasses
💧 Plenty of water
✈️ Travel insurance

But have you thought about protecting your family's future too?

None of us likes to think about the unexpected, especially during a well-deserved break. However, taking a little time to ensure your affairs are in order can give you and your loved ones invaluable peace of mind.

Ask yourself:
✅ Is my Will up to date?
✅ Have I appointed guardians for my children?
✅ Have I made a Lasting Power of Attorney?
✅ Would my family know my wishes if something happened to me?

Just as we prepare for our holidays, it's worth preparing for life's unexpected moments too.

At Newlife Wills, we're here to help you protect the people who matter most with straightforward, professional advice on Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and estate planning.

This summer holidays, enjoy the sunshine, make wonderful memories, and have the reassurance that your family's future is protected. ☀️❤️

☀️ Looking after elderly relatives during the heatwave

With the hot weather here, now is the perfect time to check in on elderly parents, grandparents and neighbours.

Make sure they're keeping cool, staying hydrated and have everything they need.

While you're together, it could also be a good opportunity to have an important conversation about the future.

✅ Is their Will up to date?
✅ Have they made a Lasting Power of Attorney?
✅ Do you know where their important documents are kept?

Planning ahead isn't about expecting the worst - it's about giving everyone peace of mind.

☀️ Blended Families and Summer Gatherings: Is Your Will Up to Date?

Summer is a time for family BBQs, holidays, and making memories with the people who matter most. ❤️

For blended families, however, estate planning can be more complicated than many people realise.

Without an up-to-date Will, spouses, children, and stepchildren may not be protected in the way you intend.

Did you know that stepchildren do not automatically inherit under the rules of intestacy?

A professionally prepared Will can help ensure your wishes are clear and your loved ones are protected.

If your family circumstances have changed through marriage, remarriage, new relationships, or growing families, now could be the perfect time to review your Will.

❓ Can You Leave Someone Out of Your Will?

It's a question we hear surprisingly often.

Whether it's an estranged family member, an adult child, or someone you simply no longer wish to benefit, many people wonder if they can choose who inherits from their estate.

The short answer is yes – but it's not always as straightforward as people think.

In our latest blog, we explain:
✅ Whether you have to leave anything to family members
✅ Who may be able to challenge a Will
✅ What happens if you exclude a child from your Will
✅ How to help ensure your wishes are respected

Making informed decisions now can help reduce the risk of disputes later and provide clarity for your loved ones.
