Last week, the Court of Appeal quashed the conviction of our client, Colin Bermingham, one of five former Barclays traders cleared in the long-running Libor and Euribor case.
Now the result has had time to settle, it feels right to reflect on what it represents. Colin always maintained his innocence, and the decision to continue his case, including after legal aid was no longer available following his conviction, was never in doubt. When you believe a conviction is wrong, you do not walk away.
Cases like this sit at the heart of what we do. Complex fraud allegations often involve years of financial evidence, intricate detail, and an enormous personal toll on those accused. They demand careful, determined, and specialist defence, sometimes over many years.
We are proud to have stood by Colin throughout, and grateful to everyone who played a part in the long road to clearing his name.
Rachel Adamson, who represented Colin, said: “Complex fraud is the work I have dedicated my career to. These cases are rarely simple, but no one should have to face them without proper representation.”
