Friday Feedback

This review from a private client is reflective of what many people feel when they first hire a PI. For most people it is a once in a lifetime requirement and they really don't know what to expect.

Thanks to TV portrayals of private detectives many people don't even know what can and cannot be achieved within the law.

Is hiring a PI the right thing to do?

Our latest blog (link in comments) looks at the choices faced by people when deciding if they should hire a PI.

As well as obvious things such as cost and benefits, there is also the ethics to be considered.

We always take time to speak to anyone enquiring to help them make that decision as informed as possible. Most people are unsure about what a PI can do and we will always explain that, and whether we feel it is beneficial to your case or not.

In an unregulated industry, voluntarily choosing to be a member of an organisation such as WAPI - World Association of Professional Investigators shows a commitment to upholding standards, and being accountable when those standards are not met.

I am very proud that this month marks 10 years since I became a member a member of WAPI.

Process Serving and Evasive respondents

In our latest blog we look at serving people who are evasive. (link in comments)

Our experienced Process servers know which documents can be letterboxed, or when to request the court permit substituted service.

Courts won't allow this unless they are sure the respondent is being evasive, so it is important to use a process server who will provide you a detailed statement of attempts and enquiries made.

For most people outside of businesses and law firms, hiring a Private Investigator is a once or twice in a lifetime thing. Often in investigations there are no second chances, if the moment has passed, it's gone.

That's why you must choose wisely if you are hiring an investigator to help you.

Success rates and Private Investigation

There are many adverts for PI services across the internet, and many mention success rates.

Whilst we are sure most of them can back up those rates (not anyone who claims 100%) we generally avoid posting such figures.

The reason is that, in our opinion, these figures, like many stats can be inaccurate or misleading.

What would you class as a successful surveillance operation? Confirming the clients suspicions? Completing the hours without the subject becoming aware? Or simply completing the task and providing the client an accurate and truthful report?

Process serving. Is it only a success if the respondent is personally served? Or does it count if they are not served but you complete a set of visits and provide a detailed statement of attempts?

Is it a failure if a clients budget doesn't allow all enquiries to be made to completion, or do we ignore those?

Can We Serve Documents Today?

A common question when we get enquiries about serving legal documents is whether we can serve them same day.

For serves on companies, we can if we receive the documents early enough.
For personal service we can't say yes. We can attempt service same day, but if we need to hand the documents to a specific person, then there is no guarantee they will be there to accept.
