As we mark Social Mobility Day, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what this means to us at Napthens.

For us, social mobility is about opening up access to the legal profession and creating opportunities for people to grow, regardless of their background.

Over the past year, we’ve been building this through outreach, partnerships and more inclusive pathways into the firm. Since September 2025, we’ve reached close to 1,000 young people through our activity, connecting with schools, colleges and universities across the region.

One highlight was our Widening Participation Day with Blackburn Youth Zone, where 150 Year 9 and 10 pupils joined us for interactive sessions and honest conversations with colleagues and partner firms PM+M, HAD & Co, Miller Insurance, Handlesbanken and Ingham & Yorke. It was encouraging to see the impact this had on confidence and awareness, with many pupils leaving with a clearer sense of the opportunities available to them.

We’re also continuing to strengthen access into the firm itself, with multiple entry routes and a focus on fair and inclusive recruitment. This is reflected in our emerging talent data, including 66% of attendees at our 2025 trainee assessment day identifying as first generation and/or state school educated.

There’s more to do, but we’re proud of the steps we’re taking and grateful to the colleagues and partners who make this work possible every day.

Today marks World Environment Day, offering us a chance to reflect on how we can all play a part in protecting the world around us.

Over the past year, we’ve taken important steps to better understand our environmental impact, including publishing our first responsible business report to establish a clear baseline for future progress.

Our environmental work is still evolving, but we’ve already started to:

• better understand our carbon footprint
• reduce unnecessary resource use, including paper and fuel
• improve recycling across our offices

What’s been most encouraging is the engagement of our people, with the majority recognising the role we all play in reducing our impact.

We’re early in our journey, but we’re focused on taking practical steps, building better data, and embedding sustainability into the way we work every day.
