What should your Will include?
Many people think a Will is simply about saying who inherits their money. But a well-written Will covers much more than that.
Here's what a thorough Will should include:
• Your executor: The person who'll carry out your wishes and manage your estate
• Your beneficiaries: Who inherits your assets – property, savings, investments and belongings
• Specific gifts: Individual items or sums left to particular people, such as jewellery or a lump sum to a grandchild
• Residuary estate: What happens to everything left after specific gifts, debts and expenses are settled
• Guardianship: If you have children under 18, you can name who you’d like to care for them
• Funeral wishes: Not legally binding, but valuable guidance for your family at a difficult time
• Trusts: Such as a Property Protection Trust, to help safeguard your home for future generations
The more clearly your Will reflects your wishes, the less room there is for confusion or disputes at a later date.
