We held our Strategic Planning Day Last week with the theme of “What do we want this firm to look and feel like by 2030”?

We focused on the fundamentals: how we run the firm better, deliver smarter, develop our people and leaders, and continue to grow and retain the loyal client base we are privileged to act for.

A key theme was evolution - keeping pace with change by working smarter, making best use of AI, and building a more inclusive firm, where people can do their best work without burning out.

Our demographic is changing, with a growing majority of women across the business. That should shape how we think about leadership, opportunity and progression; it’s about creating an environment where everyone can thrive.

The discussion was open, practical and challenging, expertly facilitated by Kimberley Williams of Williams Wroe. What stood out most was the honesty, energy, and shared ambition to keep improving and to build a firm that we can be even more proud of.

This pro bono clinic is part of our Watkins & Give initiative to support access to justice during the significant ongoing employment law changes.

Mental Health Awareness Week is an important opportunity to encourage open conversations, challenge stigma and remind people that mental health is just as important as physical health. In busy and often demanding professions, taking time to support wellbeing, check in with one another and promote a positive working environment can make a real difference.

We’re really pleased to be supporting the Legal Runner Barry-bados 5K Fun Run on 30th April at 4.30pm…supporting Law Care and the forecast is wall to wall sunshine ☀️!

It’s a great chance to step away from the desk, get some fresh air, and spend time with colleagues in a relaxed, inclusive setting. You can run or walk at your own pace along a scenic route from the Colcot Arms to Barry Island.

LawCare is the mental health and wellbeing charity for the legal profession, offering confidential emotional support, peer support and resources to anyone working in law who may be struggling with stress, pressure or burnout. Its work is vital in helping people in our profession look after themselves and each other.

The event will include a warm‑up led by former British & Irish Lion Dafydd James, followed by refreshments at Barry Athletic Club, with the chance to meet Dafydd and attend a book signing. There’s also a prize draw to win a £50 T.M. Lewin voucher.

It’s a brilliant initiative that brings together wellbeing and community.

Earth Day is a powerful reminder that protecting our planet is a responsibility we all share 🌍

At Watkins & Gunn, we marked the occasion by coming together as a team, dressed in green and blue to reflect the land and oceans that sustain us. Everyone was encouraged to wear something they already owned, reinforcing the importance of reducing waste and making more sustainable choices in our everyday lives.

Watkins & Green is our initiative to promote a firm‑wide approach to working more thoughtfully, reducing waste where we can, and making incremental, sustainable choices.

We are delighted to announce that Clive Thomas, Holly Hale, Kate Roberts and Natalie Corten from Watkins & Gunn have been named on the 2026 Pro Bono Recognition List, published this week.

The List recognises solicitors, barristers, chartered legal executives, trade mark and patent attorneys, and registered foreign and European lawyers across England and Wales who have dedicated 25 hours or more to pro bono work over the past year.

This recognition is a wonderful way of celebrating the commitment within our profession to providing legal help to those who need it most. We are extremely proud of Clive, Kate, Natalie and Holly for giving their time, skills and expertise so generously. Much of this work is delivered through Watkins & Give, our pro bono and community initiative led by Holly and reflecting our firm’s long‑standing commitment to access to justice.

The Pro Bono Recognition List is supported by its Patron, The Lady Chief Justice of England & Wales, with sponsorship from the Attorney General’s Pro Bono Committee and the support of the Law Society, Bar Council and all major pro bono legal organisations.
