“I’ve done my Will online for free.”

A friend said this to me when I bumped into him at the supermarket.

And he told me about his family circumstances.

Children from different relationships, a child together, a business together and money in the bank.

And he’s relying on a generic free Will he did online.

That’s where I feel frustrated.

When your family circumstances are complicated, there’s a lot more to consider than simply filling in a few boxes online. Get it wrong and you could leave your family with a huge mess to sort out when you’re no longer here.

And that’s the frustrating part. There may be no protection in place at all.

Do you have to use Portcullis? Not at all!

But please invest in getting your Will properly considered. It could save your family a lot of stress, expense and uncertainty further down the line.

Buy cheap, buy twice.

“I have Power of Attorney, can I change my family member’s Will?”

This is a question we often get asked, and the answer is a big NO.

Power of Attorney does not mean you have the authority to simply change someone else’s Will.

It’s an area where there can be a lot of misunderstanding, so if you’re acting as an attorney for a family member and have concerns about their Will or estate, it’s important to seek professional advice.

Don’t make assumptions when it comes to something as important as this.
