Setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) doesn’t mean giving up control.

While you have mental capacity, you remain in control of your own decisions.

An LPA is there for the future, it allows someone you trust to step in and make decisions on your behalf if you are unable to do so yourself.

Think of it as a backup, not a handover.

Many people assume an LPA is only something to think about when you are older. In reality, unexpected illness or an accident can happen at any stage of life.

Inheritance Tax receipts continue to rise!

HMRC figures show that Inheritance Tax receipts reached £3.8 billion between April and August 2026. £0.1 billion higher than the same period last year.

With the main tax-free thresholds remaining frozen, more families may need to consider what their estate could look like in the future.

The important question isn't simply “Will I have to pay Inheritance Tax?”

It's also:

▪️What is my estate worth today?
▪️Is my Will still right for my circumstances?
▪️Who do I want my assets to pass to?
▪️Are there planning opportunities I should understand?

We had a fantastic time at our local school’s Careers Day, talking to students about the different routes into a career in law, including apprenticeships and the CILEX pathway.

One of the highlights was having Mya with us, who started her legal career at just 16 through an apprenticeship. She was able to share what it’s really like to combine work, study and learning on the job.

We talked about:
What a legal apprenticeship looks like
How you can earn while you learn
The CILEX route into law
University vs apprenticeship
What working in a law firm is actually like

We hope we have shown the students that there isn’t just one route into the legal profession. Sometimes the best way to find out if a career is right for you is to ask questions, explore your options and get some real-world experience.

A big thank you to The Deepings School for inviting us and to all the students who came over, asked questions and got involved!

Who knows, we may have met some future legal professionals!

Big congratulations to Natasha from our team, who tied the knot this summer!

It got us all talking in the office about something a lot of newlyweds don't realise: getting married actually cancels any Will you already had, unless it was written specifically with that wedding in mind. And without a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA), your new husband or wife doesn't automatically have the right to make decisions for you if you are ever unable to yourself.

It's genuinely refreshing to see someone young talking about this!

BBC News spoke to Erin, 27, about why she has already written her Will years before most of us would even think about it. She doesn't see herself as wealthy, but she still had things that mattered: a car for her sister, a necklace back to her partner, a donation to a charity close to her heart.

We hear "I'm too young for a Will" all the time. Erin's story is a nice reminder that it's not really about age or how much you own, it's about wanting the people you love to have one less thing to figure out, whenever the time comes.
