Many thanks to BBC Radio East Midlands for inviting us on air yesterday to share our advice on how to navigate the challenges of Christmas as newly separated parents. To listen to the conversation, click the link below. Our director, James, is interviewed by Laurie Dyche at 2:15:38

James said: "For those going through separation and divorce, the emotional overwhelm caused by that can have a marked effect on their ability to communicate with others, to record information and to manage their life on a day-to-day level. So when they're also faced with having to sort out what's going to happen to the children at Christmas amidst their grief of losing their partner, it's really difficult. There are just so many things at Christmas that parents will be concerned about, including who's to buy the presents for the children, because they've always brought them together. They also might be wanting to put on a unified front properly for the child, but that carries its own concerns, because that can be confusing for a child who probably wants their parents back together. So there's all these things going around which need resolving.

"Communication is always key between parties who are separated. It can be difficult, but there are real issues that they need to sort out because that will help them and help their family, because they are really still a family. The effect on the children of the separation will be a whole lot better if their parents can communicate with each other.”

James invited listeners to visit the website of , the organisation of which Belderbos Solicitors is a member, for advice on non-court resolutions to separation and divorce. And he invited listeners to talk to our team here at Belderbos Solicitors for guidance on more amicable approaches to dealing with separation, such as mediation.

The latest news, great music and inspirational people to take you through the afternoon.
