WHAT MAKES YOU TICK?

The decision to start your own business is a very personal one.

Whilst the idea may be alluring, nobody tells you how much hard work is involved. That being said, it can be incredibly rewarding!
You are no longer constrained by traditional methods of working and you are free to be your own boss.

During my "traditional private practice," the thought of setting up on my own never seemed viable. However, with the backing of my clients, family and friends, it became a reality back in 2013.

I wanted the freedom to pick and choose my working pattern and with whom I worked. The latter was/is so important to me.

My advice:-
- it sounds trite, but people buy from people, particularly when professional services are involved; and
- only work with people who share your morals, values and ethics. Without these, the relationship is so much harder to maintain/develop, and prone to difficulties; and
- do what makes you happy. Without it, work becomes a chore!

10 YEARS OF CENTURION LEGAL!

Well, I woke up to a lovely surprise from the other director of Centurion Legal who provides unwavering support for which I remain immeasurably grateful. We also happen to be married - words can’t express the gratitude for this wonderful portrait, Simon Fernandes 🙂

Turning to my devoted clients - I am truly overwhelmed by the support you have provided over the last 10 years - It has been and remains a pleasure to work with you all. I also look forward to working in partnership with you in the future, to add value and drive your businesses forward!

Bullying & harassment in the workplace - listen in as I talk to Verity Cowley on BBC Radio Nottingham regarding the resignation of Dominic Raab over bullying claims.

One of the biggest things that employers can do to avoid bullying and harassment claims at work is to ensure they have the right inbuilt culture. This includes:

* The correct policies and procedures;
* Training for all members of staff (including managers) on accepted behaviours;
* Setting out expectations from the outset; and
* Creating a culture of open and honest conversations.

I had a fabulous night on Friday at the Enterprising Women's Awards. Thank you to Sarah Loates for inviting me. Huge congratulations to Tilly Swanson and Rachel Hayward for their awards, and also to Francoise Derksen for the well-deserved nominations.

Was lovely to meet Annie Litchfield as well as seeing Dr Kevin Marks, Gill and Lucy Sherwin Assoc CIPD again.

Well done to all those involved.

A Settlement Agreement (formerly known as a Compromise Agreement) is a legally binding contract made between an employer and employee. It can be used by both sides in a dispute to resolve a problem or end employment.
