Having a Will written for you by a professional expert can save a lot of heartache for the family.

Did you know that Will writing is not regulated in England and Wales? In fact anyone can start a Will writing business. However, Will writing is not as simple as it seems and many people fall foul of untrained companies flogging Wills.

Covid-19 has concentrated our minds about putting our affairs in order. For some that has been extremely distressing.

But right now it's so important to appreciate that writing a Will, or arranging a power of attorney is merely putting in place some insurance policies for future events, just in case.

Just because Covid is around right now, writing that Will doesn't mean it's going to be needed. And once it's written, you can sit back, relax and know that weight has been taken off your mind.

Coronavirus update from us:

Most importantly, to all of our past, current and future clients, we're thinking of you and we want to wish you all well during the current pandemic. Nothing is more important.

Please remember that having a Will does not mean the worst is going to happen. If you think about it, we all have insurance policies for something, whether it's life assurance, or buildings insurance or holiday cover (won't that be useful right now!).

All of those policies are just putting some cover in place in the unlikely event something bad happens.

So please don't be worried about making Wills or Lasting Powers of Attorney. Just think of them as a different kind of insurance policy.

Of course we'd prefer you to work with us, but whether you obtain them through us, or any other route, please make sure you do the right thing and put your insurance policies in place.

It's surprising that we don't know what would happen to what we own if we died without a Will in place.

We have recently met with someone who's brother lives with his partner and their children, but the two of them never got married. The trouble is that he owns the house solely and her name does not appear on the deeds.

They were under the assumption that if he were to die that she would inherit all he owns including the house. Little did they know that as he didn't have a Will in place he would die intestate. And who would be the legal beneficiaries of his estate?

Any ideas?

The children! They would own the house their mum lives in.

A professionally drafted Will would prevent this disaster.
