Putting the heating on again can bring familiar questions back: why is that room always colder, and which improvements would actually help❓
Before spending money on insulation or a new heating system, it helps to understand the home you’re working with.

A domestic EPC gives an overview of its energy performance and recommended improvements. A retrofit assessment takes a broader look at the property, including its condition, ventilation and how it is used, to inform further planning.

Private landlords, this one’s for you 🏠
Awaab’s Law (damp, mould and repair timescales) currently covers social housing only. The government is now consulting on extending it to private rentals too, potentially protecting 9 million households instead of 4 million.

Thinking about improving your home’s energy efficiency, but unsure where to start?
In the East Midlands, 45.5% of EPC assessments for existing homes in the year to June 2026 recorded a rating below C, compared with 40.2% across England and Wales. For homeowners and landlords, deciding which improvements to prioritise can be difficult, especially with a limited budget.

Based in Beeston, our team helps property owners understand their EPC and what the recommendations mean for their home. Where a more detailed assessment is needed, we look at insulation, heating and ventilation together to help plan suitable improvements.

Congratulations to Jacob, who won Construction Apprentice of the Year at last night’s Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Apprenticeship Awards ⭐
We’re so pleased for him and proud to see the work he’s putting into his surveying career recognised.

With three of our apprentices shortlisted and Crawford & Co supporting the evening as sponsors, it was a special night for the team.

If you're thinking of selling, you may have heard talk of "sales packs." But what's actually in one, and why might it save you a headache later? 🏡
Sales Packs have been in the news since the government published its roadmap in the summer.

The idea is: rather than gathering everything after you've accepted an offer, you get it together upfront. Searches, the legal and title information, and a property condition report. Everything sitting there ready, instead of trickling in over weeks while your buyer waits (and sometimes gets cold feet).

REMEMBER - none of this is law yet. It's guidance for now as part of a wider roadmap so there's no need to panic or rush. But if you're planning to sell your home, having a condition report ready before you go to market is a genuinely sensible head start, it means fewer surprises for a buyer, and fewer reasons for a sale to wobble.

Some lovely news from Birmingham today: Ash has won the Pioneer award at the UK Construction Week Role Models awards!

After 20 years building Crawford & Co and helping people find their feet in surveying and retrofit, we’re very proud to see him recognised.

We’re celebrating Shannon too, who was shortlisted for Rising Star. From joining us as an accounts apprentice to becoming our Managing Director, she has been a huge part of the business and the careers of many colleagues here.

Congratulations to Ash, Shannon and everyone recognised today. Thank you to our team, past and present, who have been part of those 20 years.

Today we're at UK Construction Week in Birmingham for the Role Models awards, and we've got two people shortlisted: Shannon Walker for Rising Star and Ashley Crawford for Pioneer.

It means a lot to see them recognised alongside people doing good work across construction and the built environment. Shannon and Ash have worked together for many years, and between them they've helped colleagues begin their careers, build their knowledge and progress within Crawford & Co.

We're proud of them both and looking forward to spending the day with colleagues from across the industry. Good luck to everyone shortlisted, and thank you to UK Construction Week for the recognition.
