The people behind your plan.....

Estate planning is personal. So we think it helps to know the people behind the advice.

Behind every Will, Trust and Lasting Power of Attorney we help put in place is a team of people who understand that no two families, circumstances or plans for the future are quite the same.

At Foresight, our approach is simple: we listen, we explain, and we help you understand your options, without unnecessary jargon, so you can make informed decisions that feel right for you and your family.

Over the coming months, we’ll be introducing you to the people behind Foresight, sharing a little more about who they are, what they do and what they enjoy outside of the office too.

Because when you’re planning for the people and things that matter most, it’s good to know who you’re talking to.

👋 Meet the Foresight team.

Myth-Busting Monday 🔍

MYTH: “If I leave everything to my spouse, it will eventually go to our children.”

Not necessarily.

Once assets pass to your spouse, they belong to them. Life can then change, they may remarry, make a new Will, or their personal and financial circumstances may change.

This can mean that assets you ultimately hoped would pass to your children may not reach them as you intended.

This is sometimes referred to as “sideways disinheritance.”

Our article looks at how sideways disinheritance can happen and some of the estate planning options that can be considered to help protect your wishes.

Every family is different. The important thing is understanding the risks and planning for what you want to achieve.

Some conversations are harder to start than others 🗣

With World Mental Health Day tomorrow, it’s a reminder that conversations about the future, illness, incapacity or what happens when we’re no longer here can sometimes feel difficult or overwhelming.

You don’t have to work everything out at once.

Sometimes, a good place to start is with one simple question:

“What would I want the people closest to me to know?”

Who would you trust to make decisions for you? What would you want to happen to the things you’ve worked hard for? What would make things easier for the people you care about?

You don’t need to know all the answers before speaking to us.

We’re here to listen, explain your options and help you take things one step at a time.

Who would you trust to make important decisions for you if you couldn’t make them yourself?

It’s something many of us don’t think about until we need to.

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) allows you to put the right people in place, people you choose and trust to step in if illness or an accident means you’re unable to make certain decisions yourself.

There are two types of LPA, covering Property & Financial Affairs and Health & Welfare, and each gives your chosen attorneys authority to help with different aspects of your life.

Without an LPA in place, being your spouse, partner, child or close relative does not automatically give someone the authority to take control of your affairs.

And there’s an important point to remember: you can only make an LPA while you still have the mental capacity to make that decision.

Our Powers of Attorney article explains the different types of LPA, the decisions they can cover and why putting the right people in place now can make such a difference later.

Planning ahead means the choice remains yours.

For World Teachers’ Day, here are three lessons worth remembering about your Will.

Lesson 1: Life changes. Your Will might need to as well.
Marriage, divorce, a new arrival, a house move or a change in your finances can all be good reasons to review your arrangements.

Lesson 2: Your Will should reflect who matters to you.
It records who you want to benefit from your estate and who you trust to carry out your wishes.

Lesson 3: Planning to marry? Do your homework.
Marriage can have important consequences for an existing Will, so it’s worth taking advice before the big day.

And perhaps the most important lesson?

You don’t need to know all the legal answers before asking the questions.

That’s what we’re here for. No homework required.

Life changes - and your Will should keep up.

A new relationship, marriage or separation. A growing family. A change in your finances. New property or assets. Even changes to tax and legislation.

There are plenty of reasons why the Will you made several years ago might no longer reflect your circumstances or what you want to happen in the future.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you need a new Will. A regular review gives you the opportunity to check that your wishes are still reflected, the right people are provided for and your estate planning continues to work as intended.

In our article The Joy of Six, we explore six valuable reasons to review your Will.

Insight has always been a family business, and we see our clients as part of our family. I’m proud that my three children work within our group of companies, and I’d like to introduce my daughter, Natasha, from Foresight Estate Planning & Will Writing – a company that has specialised in wills, estate planning, and powers of attorney for over 20 years.

Natasha and her colleagues know that making a will is really just about taking care of the people you love, and they bring expertise and a personal touch to what can feel like a daunting subject. Wills can be more complex than you think, so this month we’re offering a free consultation with one of our estate planning experts at Foresight.

Supporting your overall financial security is at the heart of all we do at Insight Financial Associates - whether that’s reviewing your investments, planning for retirement, or helping you manage your money.

This month, why not take a moment to review your financial plans? While markets can feel unpredictable at times, small, regular reviews help keep your goals on track and give you peace of mind.

At Insight, we’re here to provide guidance and reassurance, helping you feel confident about the steps you’re taking today for a financially secure tomorrow.

The effectiveness of estate planning strategies will depend on your individual circumstances and current legislation, which may change over time. The FCA does not regulate wills, estate planning, trusts, powers of attorney, or tax advice.

💙 Feedback Friday 💙

Receiving feedback like this truly warms our hearts and reminds us why we do what we do every day. Knowing that we’ve made a positive difference and helped provide peace of mind for a client and their loved ones means the world to us.

That's why feedback like this means so much to us, and we are incredibly grateful when clients take the time to share their experiences. Are unmarried couples about to gain automatic inheritance rights?

You may have seen over the last few days articles about proposed government reforms to inheritance laws for unmarried couples, they outline plans to give cohabiting couples similar rights to married partners when it comes to inheritance — a significant shift from the current position where unmarried partners have no automatic claim.

While this is a positive step, it also reinforces an important message…

You should never rely on “default” rules to decide who inherits your estate.

Consultations like this highlight just how much the legal landscape can change, and how uncertain things can be without clear planning in place.

If you want to ensure your children are protected and your assets pass exactly as you intend, a well thought-out estate plan is essential.

✔️ Protect your children’s future
✔️ Control who benefits from your estate
✔️ Guarantee your assets pass to who you choose

Peace of mind comes from planning ahead — not leaving things to chance.

If you haven’t reviewed your arrangements recently, now is the time, we are always here to help, call us on 01603 268081 or email [email protected]
