A recent case has highlighted just how important it is to understand the terms of a settlement before agreeing to it. ⚖️

In Ritchie v Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust [2026], the Court considered whether an earlier “full and final” settlement prevented a subsequent clinical negligence claim from proceeding.

The case is an important reminder that the wording of a settlement can have significant consequences for future claims.

A landmark Supreme Court ruling has changed the law on compensation for children whose lives are shortened as a result of negligence. ⚖️

In CCC v Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust [2026] UKSC 5, the Supreme Court ruled that children should not automatically be prevented from claiming compensation for earnings they would have received during the years they would have lived and worked had their life not been shortened.

Known as the “lost years”, the decision marks an important development in clinical negligence law.

A recent £28 million NHS settlement has once again highlighted the profound impact that medical negligence can have on individuals and their families.

While no amount of compensation can undo the harm caused, medical negligence claims can play an important role in securing the specialist care, rehabilitation and long-term support that those affected may need. They can also provide answers, encourage accountability and help drive improvements in patient safety.

In our latest carousel, we take a closer look at what this case means, why these claims are brought, and what you should know if you or a loved one has experienced avoidable harm as a result of medical treatment.

🏢 The way we buy flats could be changing.

In this post, we explain:

🚔 Imagine opening your front door only to be tasered, handcuffed and arrested... only for the police to realise they had the wrong address.

That is exactly what happened to 80-year-old Roy Morton, who was detained for almost 11 hours after armed officers mistakenly entered his home.

The case is a powerful reminder that while the police perform a vital role in protecting the public, they must also be held accountable when serious mistakes occur.
An apology is important—but for many people, it’s only the beginning. Civil claims can provide answers, accountability and recognition when someone’s rights have been breached.
