Meet Naomi James

Naomi is a Trainee Solicitor in our Crime Department. After graduating from Cardiff University in 2021 with an LLB Law degree and an LLM in Human Rights Law, she went on to complete her Legal Practice Course at the University of South Wales in summer 2026.

Having gained experience across a range of legal roles, Naomi now supports our solicitors and clients on sensitive criminal law matters as part of our dedicated Crime team.

When legal consequences meet professional obligations, the line between ‘choice’ and ‘compulsion’ gets blurred.

Next week, one of our Directors, Antony Williams, will be addressing this exact dilemma at the Police Federation of England and Wales PIP Conference in the seminar: "PIP: Is it Voluntary? Choice or Compulsion?"

Over the last 16 years Tony has advised and helped officers who have been engaged in the PIP and has delivered PIP training to those who help represent officers interests and welfare during the process. Tony will be sharing key insights on an important process which helps officers deal with some of the most difficult circumstances they will face during their police career.

It's time to look back on another fantastic month at JNP Legal. Here are some of the key stories, events, and achievements we've been celebrating this September.

✅ We welcomed Kaia Ray, Poppy Petford and Lydia Phillips to our team this month.

✅ Lewys Dymond shared his blog, “Caught Speeding? A Guide to Notices, Penalty Points and Disqualification”, explaining NIPs, speeding penalties, disqualification risks, and the legal options available to drivers.

✅ Several members of the team, including Abbie James, Hannah Jennings, James Jones, Jasmine Groves, Kate Morey, Natasha Bolton, Rachel Townsend, Sam Hoyland, Zuhal Aylan, attended the Little Ball of Hope in support of the charity 2wish.

✅ Rebecca Rees met with Matthew Parry, Senior Lecturer at Swansea University's Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law, to discuss the successful partnership which supported student work placements.

✅ We also announced that JNP Legal will sponsor a Beaujolais Day event on 19 November, which is to be held at Brothers in Pontyclun in support of 2wish.

✅ Louise Last, Laura McNee, Emily Farmer, and Chloe Jones had a wonderful time attending the 30 Park Place Family Team Summer Event at Jacobs Roof Garden on 3rd September.

Explained Simply: What happens when you get divorced?

Ending a marriage can feel overwhelming, but understanding the process can make things feel much more manageable.

Here's a simple breakdown:

1. Making the application
One or both spouses apply to the court to start divorce proceedings.

2. Acknowledging the application
The other spouse is notified and given the opportunity to respond.

3. Conditional Order
The court reviews the application and, if satisfied, issues a Conditional Order (previously known as a Decree Nisi).

4. Final Order
After a waiting period, an application can be made for the Final Order, which legally ends the marriage.

It's important to remember that divorce itself doesn't resolve arrangements for finances, property, or children. These issues often require separate discussions and agreements.

The right advice can help ensure your interests are protected and that important decisions are properly documented.
