Legal Migrants Should Not Be Punished
Rana Zia Aslam Khan, Principal Solicitor at Immigration Solicitors UK, shares his concerns about the direction of the UK’s immigration policy.
Many legal migrants came to the UK through the correct routes. They paid visa fees, paid the Immigration Health Surcharge, worked hard, paid taxes and contributed to the UK economy. They should not be treated in the same way as those who enter the UK through irregular routes.
A fair immigration system must recognise the difference between lawful migration and irregular migration. Policies that make life more uncertain for legal migrants can damage families, businesses, public services and the wider UK economy.
The UK needs firm immigration control, but it also needs fairness, balance and respect for those who followed the rules.
